Building Custodian:
The accommodation store is a department in the 2nd Infantry Training Battalion (2ITB) - we are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to work as a key player in a small team working in a fast-paced environment; providing accommodation stores/equipment and supporting the battalion instructors with minor infrastructure repairs to accommodation enabling them carry out their duties to support recruit training.
This is a key role in providing the Army's new recruits with a decent standard of accommodation.This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description:
The main duties will be:
Defence Accommodation Stores (DAS)
Supervise minor repairs to DAS. Check and educate company staff on DAS Furniture exchange procedures.
Move DAS on change of requirement.
Assembling items of office and living accommodation furniture e.g., desks, tables, beds.
Arrange for and assist in the collection of expense items from the Quartermaster's Department/Equipment store.
Laundry
Conduct bedding exchanges for the Pl's.
Collate and record laundry and dry cleaning quantities prior to collection by the laundry service. Receive in returned goods, checking item quantities on return from cleaning.
Barrack Damages
Supervise building damage reporting in allocated accommodation areas, ensuring the barrack damage computer records are up to date, collaborating closely with and guiding building occupants for compliance with policy regarding damages and fault identification.
Check the condition of all guttering and roof tiles etc. during severe weather periods and report damages found.
Works Services
Carry out minor repairs as identified during walk rounds i.e., replacing screws etc.
Be a Point of contact for the contractors carrying out works within the site.
Update relevant computer spreadsheets and inform the line manager when work order tasks exceed completion dates.
Contract Monitoring
Report any major cleaning issues to Stores Officer 2 ITB so that issues can be investigated and actioned.
- Safety, Health, Environmental & Fire (SHEF)_
Check fire panels in designated areas and raise jobs to repair any faults and alarm indicators showing.
Ensure all personal electrical equipment within the store is electrically tested for use within Helles Barracks (PAT testing).
Implement legionella control measures in accommodation that has not been occupied for more than 4 days.
Follow ITC Energy conservation (ENCON) standing orders ensuring that all electrical equipment and lighting are turned off when not in use.
Assist staff in conducting regular checks of accommodation stores items as per Quartermaster Instructions.
Actively monitor and control and Helles accommodation store consumable stock levels, creating replenishment demands when required.
On occasions, supervise the issue, receipt, maintenance of office furniture, bedding, fixtures and fittings within 2 ITBs' accommodation areas of responsibility.
Deputise for the Stores Officer in their absence for any meetings or site inspections. Complete and submit reports and returns in line with schedules. Carry out any task, relevant to the grade, as requested by Stores Officer or Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant (RQMS) 2 ITB
Person specification:
Display effective communication skills.
Possess the skills to undertake stock audits; previous stores experience an advantage.
Demonstrate a record of independent working following initial guidance.
Have and be able to articulate experience and ability in the use of power and hand tools to effect repairs to accommodation items and maintain built in furniture.
