Sovereign's Development team is entering a new era, with an ambitious Investment Strategy that targets more homes, and better places.

We're looking for an Estimator to cover our East region, based from ourBasingstoke offices. The role will include a mix of on-site visits, home and office-based working.


What you'll be doing


As an Estimator at Sovereign Housing Association, you will be leading regional cost-estimation, due-diligence and tendering support functions in support of Development, Land and Planning Teams to ensure land-bids are cost competitive.


This role will be supporting Senior Estimator and Construction and Technical Director in implementing agreed design, procurement, and delivery strategies.


Preparing detailed project budgets, cost plans and reports for main contract / subcontract/ material package competitive tendering is a key part of this role.


Other responsibilities include:


  • Measuring and preparation of Bill of Quantities where required
  • Managing construction package enquiries to support cost estimates
  • Managing tender issue, analysis and reporting and recommendations
In support of the Land and Planning / Development Teams and working with internal Technical and Commercial colleagues and external Consultants undertake viability, feasibility pre-construction analysis with regards to:

  • Detailed build cost estimates, interpreting available technical information and site constraints / opportunities and feed into the Development Appraisal to support a competitive land-bid
  • Making recommendation for pragmatic costoptimisation at each step. Work with colleagues to valueengineer proposals as necessary
  • Updating and maintaining cost estimates as more detailed information comes available and as is informed by negotiations with Partners / Supply Chain / Statutory / Warranty Authorities

What we need from you
You'll need to demonstrate previous experience in a similar role from the housing development or property / construction sectors.

You shall have extensive experience delivering residential developments on greenfield, brown field, mixed-use and contaminated land sites.

  • Have experience working with lowrise housing, mediumrise apartments and public realm including SUDs solutions
  • Have experience pricing geotechnical engineered solutions and all types of traditional foundations and piling including temporary and permanent works, concrete frames, basement construction, site remediation.
  • Have an extensive network of industry contacts who can support you in your task of pricing current and relevant cost estimates
  • Have relevant experience costestimating traditional construction for houses and apartments as well as apartment superstructure and various Modern Methods of Construction, undertaking markettesting and cost/value benchmarking of the same
  • Have relevant experience costestimating renewable energy systems and or networks (ASHP/GSHP/PV/Heat Networks / Energy Centres)
  • Have experience with Design and Build Contracts
  • Excel to an advanced level
  • Estimating and Measuring Software : Axiom / Onsite / Easy Grid / Launchsite /Autodesk Review / Bid Screen XL or similar
  • A strategic thinker, able to engage in a wide field of enquiry
  • Strong written and verbal communicator
