    Our client is a successful and highly regarded film production house, with a supportive and well capitalised shareholder that brings the business considerable opportunities across the wider media sector. Continued growth has led to the creation of this new position, to own and develop all aspects of finance, reporting into the COO.

    The Financial Controller will ensure that the Finance function scales in line with business growth, evolving and leading the team through this exciting stage for the company. Specific responsibilities include management of the day reporting and accounting functions, including group reporting, budgeting and forecasting, improving the control environment, streamlining and updating financial policies, procedures and systems and supervising the preparation of all statutory and tax accounts including for a US subsidiary.

    Specific responsibilities include leading, mentoring and developing the Finance Team, supporting the COO as the business grows by providing consistent, high-quality financial management. The FC will prepare the forecast and budgets with detailed variance analysis, as well as producting and reviewing monthly management accounts for P&L, balance sheet and a rolling cash flow with high level variance analysis. Deputising for the COO as required, the role will prepare finance papers for Board meetings and will support the production of the overall Board pack, while also participating in cross-functional senior team meetings and initiatives, providing clear and insightful financial information to the other teams to support their decision making. There will be a clear focus on improving the efficiency of current processes and controls, evaluating existing systems to assess what changes are required to support the continued rapid growth. Statutory requirements include planning and coordinating the year-end process with management, auditors and the shareholder, supporting external accountants who prepare of statutory accounts and tax reporting, both in the UK and US, and ensuring timely submission of the Group's VAT returns and other regulatory filings. Success in the role will depend on building and maintaing good working relationships with all stakeholders, partners and investors, keeping up to date with their requirements and providing all information required for reporting.

    We are looking for a qualified accountant with proven experience in another finance teams, who is comfortable with consolidated accounting, financial management & control and business partnering. Candidates need to be ambitious, entrepreneurial, pragmatic, commercial and highly analytical. The role will suit someone who can communicate clearly, who is comfortable with ambiguity, who is capable of identifying problems and who possesses the ability and passion to resolve those problems. Excellent attention to detail and and advanced Excel skills are essential, as is the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships and to prioritise workloads to meet strict deadlines in a fast-moving environment. Preference will be given to candidates who have prior experience working in a fast-growing SME businesses, although candidates seeking a first move away from a larger company will certainly be considered. Experience of transitioning to a new accounting system will be a strong advantage.
