The Sheffield Methods Institute (SMI) is seeking a new research member of staff.

You will join a dynamic community of interdisciplinary academics engaged in cutting-edge research and teaching in social science methods, applied within different disciplines and across interdisciplinary boundaries.

We are seeking a two-year fixed-term Research Associate. This is a full-time post.

You will work with Dr Elisabeth Garratt on an ESRC-funded project entitled 'Navigating household food insecurity and environmental sustainability on a low income: A case study of Sheffield mothers'.

This role will incorporate various research activities, including longitudinal qualitative data collection, analysis, and contributing to and leading on research outputs.

You will also have responsibility for key aspects of project administration (primarily data management, quality assurance, and archiving activities) and contribute to managing stakeholder relationships and planning and delivering dissemination and impact activities.

Within the University of Sheffield, you will report directly to Dr Elisabeth Garratt. You will also develop close working relationships with other Departments within the Faculty of Social Sciences. This role will involve travel and fieldwork in the Sheffield region.


Our research within the SMI is focussed mainly on inequality and poverty, social justice and inclusion, social mobility, migration, as well as on methods and methodology.

Currently, our disciplinary specialisms include political science, economics, sociology, geography, and education.
