    North Yorkshire Police currently hold vacancies for Specialist Police Staff Investigators within the Major Investigation Team (MIT). The role of Specialist Police Staff Investigator (Specialist PSI) in MIT is both a challenging and rewarding position.

    About the role

    As Specialist PSI you will be responsible for gathering and reviewing evidence and undertaking crime investigation duties in this specialist and complex arena, ensuring that any evidence obtained is recorded, secured, preserved, and reviewed in a timely and appropriate manner to safeguard the vulnerable and to bring offenders to justice, thereby supporting Force policing mission, and organisational priorities.

    You will need excellent communication skills (including the ability to communicate difficult messages with tact, sensitivity, and authority), problem-solving and decision-making skills.

    The role concerns the review of material relating to homicide, serial sexual offences, and other serious crime. Previous experience of working within crime investigation, together with an understanding of the various processes of major crime investigation, including HOLMES and an understanding of the potential and limitations of Forensic Science support is desirable, but training is available.

    As a Specialist Police Staff Investigator, you will:

    ·Plan, prepare and conduct Interviews with witnesses and support suspect interviews as required

    ·Utilise HOLMES, CLIO, NICHE, and other Police information sources as applicable to the investigation

    ·Carry out investigative tasks utilising a variety of sources of information

    ·Assist in the preparation of prosecution case files, managing exhibits and disclosure, and support CPS requests

    ·Assist and support 'live' enquiries in support of Force Major Investigation Team

    ·Ensure that evidence is recorded, secured, and preserved in a timely and appropriate manner

    ·Comply with data protection.

    Hours & Travel


    You will be expected to work standard office hours on the MIT shift pattern between 8:00-17:00 hours, incorporating some weekend working, and due to the nature and demand of role there may be occasions when you will be requested to work beyond your normal scheduled working hours and travel / work around the force, and on occasion other force areas.
