Job Purpose

The role operates within a small, busy, in-demand Communications & Engagement team in the Estates Directorate at the University of Glasgow.

Working together with the Communications and Engagement Lead, the post holder will provide hands-on support for both internal and external communications.

We are seeking someone with a passion for writing, marketing and communications to join us.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Draft and edit impactful communication content, including briefs, website pages, social media posts, video scripts and newsletters.
  • Assist in the planning of content for campaigns, which support the communication plans and content calendar.
  • Support the redevelopment of the Estates' website pages and the development of the Estates intranet platform.
  • Provide operational and administrative support for a range of activities, events and initiatives related to Estates Directorate communications and employee engagement, including the maintenance of organisational charts, webpages and documents; the delivery of staff events, broadcasts and awards; and the development of colleague engagement programme.
  • Respond to communication enquiries in a timely and efficient manner, answering questions, providing further information, finding solutions to problems and connecting with colleagues.
  • Carry out market research activities, including pulse surveys and UX focus groups, analyse and present on outputs.
  • Measure the effectiveness of communications campaigns and make recommendations for future campaigns.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role, or, Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 (Advanced Higher / Scottish Vocational Qualification level 3, Higher National Certificate) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role
A2 Experience in either communications, writing, marketing, digital engagement, journalism or a related field
A3 Working knowledge of social media and website content management platforms


Desirable:

B1 Knowledge of marketing and communications theory and best practice
B2 Understanding of SEO


Skills

Essential:

C1 Proven ability to generate original and innovative ideas in delivering creative campaigns
C2 Excellent copywriting skills, with an ability to write clear, compelling and accurate copy in a range of styles and for a range of channels and platforms
C3 Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the confidence to communicate with individuals at all levels
C4 Strong IT skills in the use of Microsoft Windows and Office packages e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook
C5 Able to communicate effectively with other services and colleagues and work as part of a team
C6 Excellent project management skills - self-sufficient in prioritising, organising work streams, attention to detail and planning ahead


Experience

Essential:

E1 Copywriting experience within a PR, communications or marketing context
E2 Experience of working in pressurised, fast paced environments.
E3 Experience of developing bespoke staff surveys and analysing and presenting results
E4 Some experience of working with a diverse stakeholder group and selecting the most effective communication channels to suit message and recipients
E5 Experience of speaking to and sharing information in group or meeting setting on a differing range of topics


Desirable:

F1 Experience of working in a Higher Education institution
F2 Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, InDesign and Premiere Pro
F3 Experience of website development and using T4
F4 Experience of planning, launching, managing, and analysing marketing campaigns
F5 Experience of creating and editing compelling video content


Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 5, £24,715 - £28,929 per annum.
This post is full time and open ended.
