An exciting opportunity has arisen for dynamic team player to join the team of Cancer MDT Coordinator team at West Middlesex Hospital on a 12 month fixed term contract.


The successful applicant will have experience within cancer services and knowledge of Cancer Waiting Times guidance and working knowledge of Somerset as well as a good understanding of patient pathway navigation.

The key features of the role are ensuring that all patients within the designated specialties are tracked against the national 14, 28, 31 and 62 day cancer waiting time targets.


The post holder will be a member of the Cancer Services team that is specifically dedicated to supporting the streamlined pathway of cancer patients though the Trust.

The main purpose of the MDT Co-ordinator role is to track the pathways of cancer patients within a number of specialties to ensure that the Trust meets the requirements of the national Cancer
Waiting Time Standards.

This will involve collecting data from a variety of sources and entering the data items into the Trust's cancer database.

Excellent organisational and communication skills and a good attention for detail are key requisites for the role.

The post holder will also be responsible to support the regular Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings for a number of specialties.

This will involve working in close liaison with clinical teams to ensure that all relevant information is available for these meetings in order to allow the efficient planning of treatment for patients with a suspected or confirmed diagnosis of cancer.

  • MDT Coordinators at various other trusts, frequently at Imperial NHS Trust, The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and Chelsea

Roles and responsibilities
MDT Co-ordination

  • Arrange, cover and coordinate the weekly/fortnightly/monthly MDT meetings for designated specialties to ensure they are run in accordance with the requirements of the national Manual of Cancer Services
  • Liaise closely with the members of the individual MDTs to prepare the information required for the meetings, e.g. identify patients for discussion, produce and circulate the list of patients and ensure
patient case notes are available

  • Circulate and collect a signed attendance register for the MDT meetings and maintain an electronic record of attendance for core members.
  • Document the outcome of the MDT discussion for each patient and circulate concise and accurate minutes to the MDT. Maintain an efficient paper and electronic filing system to ensure prompt and
easy access to meeting records.

  • Ensure that every patient with a cancer diagnosis is discussed at an MDT meeting.
  • Support the clinical teams to ensure that the outcome of the MDT discussion is recorded on an MDT pro forma and is filed in each patient's case notes and updated on Somerset cancer tracker.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with counterparts in other local Trusts. Complete a referral pro forma and liaise with the appropriate MDT Coordinator for patients
requiring discussion at a specialist MDT at another hospital (Imperial, The Royal Marsden & Chelsea & Westminster). Ensure that any imaging CDs or pathology slides are sent to the other hospital in
time for the MDT meeting.

  • Work with the MDTs to ensure GPs receive
