    Position

    An opportunity has arisen for an Area Quality Assurance Technician at University Hospital Crosshouse

    What you will do:

    You will lead, develop, provide and evaluate the Quality Assurance programme for the hospital pharmacy service in NHS Ayrshire & Arran in accordance with statutory and regulatory standards, and will work closely with the Regional Quality Assurance Service (RQA) in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde in matters relating to Quality Assurance. Duties include environmental monitoring, medical gas testing, the processing of unlicensed medicines, QA training, audit, risk management and line management responsibility for 2 members of staff.

    This post will carry a contractual commitment to work on a shift system (which includes a commitment to cover 7 days including weekend and evening). You will also be required to participate in our weekend and public holiday rota.

    Please note: This is an area post and you will be based at University Hospital Crosshouse in Kilmarnock.

    Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:

    A degree level qualification in a relevant science subject- must have a degree in (e.g. chemistry, biology) and eligible to be a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) or Institute of Biology(IB).

    And or

  • SQA National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  • SVQ Level 3- Pharmacy Services.
  • Registered as a technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (including evidence of continuing professional development)
  • SQA Higher National Unit – Final Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician.
  • HNC Pharmaceutical Sciences (or in depth experience across a broad range of hospital pharmacy)
  • Assessor for SVQ Level 2 and Level 3 – Pharmacy Services.
  • Evidence of management training
  • Hours: 37 per week

    This is a permanent position.

    A car driving licence/car ownership is essential for this role.

    From 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37.5 to 37 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

    NHS Ayrshire and Arran will implement this change but it may not be possible to fully transition from 1 April and there may therefore be some areas of the organisation where implementation may take longer. If the department is currently unable to safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week (pro rata for part-time staff) until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety - you will, of course, be remunerated accordingly. NHS Ayrshire and Arran is committed to full implementation of the 37 hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so
