WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING


Santander Consumer Finance is one of the UKs Leading Motor Finance companies providing finance to a network of dealerships throughout the United Kingdom.

We are now launching an exciting and challenging project to expand our Contract Hire and Leasing teams inhouse.

This means effectively building a brand new Operation which will be based out of our new offices in Milton Keynes with the Operation going live in Spring/Summer 2024.


As such we are now recruiting for a Head of Tactical Vehicle Purchasing and Insight to join the team at conception to help create, design and shape this part of the Operation ready to go live next year.

This is a senior role that will hold ownership of all tactical vehicle buying, OEM relationship management and responsible for a £multi million budget.

They will also be expected to deputise for the Head of Operations at times.

This role will be hybrid and based out of the Milton Keynes office.

As part of the set up and current project there will be the initial requirement to visit the Redhill office on a regular basis.


Responsibilities will include:


  • Lead and direct the team to make tactical decisions, mitigate risks and drive performance
  • Full ownership of the tactical budget including facilitating buying decisions and sign off
  • To ensure the growth of SCUK is driven by sound tactical decisions, backed up with key MI
  • Responsible for significant levels of responsibility and accountability for operational delivery
  • To provide insight across the business unit and wider industry to senior stakeholders with a thorough understanding of the market
  • Drive platform enhancements, functional and nonfunctional requirements and deliverables
  • Responsible for the annual budgeting process and effectively manage the departmental budget
  • Oversight of the business change team within the operations business unit
  • Keeps up to date with competitor initiatives and industry trends. Ensure issues that arise with external parties are promptly and courteously resolved
  • Present reports to stakeholders on progress, including risks, issues and suggested solutions
  • Identification and opportunity management of current customer trends including the migration to electric vehicles

What we're looking for:


  • Previous extensive experience working within the motor finance industry including contract hire
  • Previous experience in managing a team responsible for a large scale budget and associated accountabilities
  • Solid understanding of the intricacies of the tactical finance market including products, RVs and repatriation
  • Significant experience dealing with Management Information, conceptualising, enhancing and delivering reports that provide key insights
  • Has experience working on projects and understands the challenge with working closely with internal and external teams as well as coordinating with technical suppliers to successfully deliver projects in line with agreed scope, timelines and budget
  • Proven experience of successfully establishing new activities and implementing change
  • Significant experience of the Regulatory environment associated with consumer credit activities
  • Credible, effective and enthusiastic leader who gains commitment from others and demonstrates the ability to achieve results through people
  • Ability to translate complicated ideas in a clear and simple proposition in order to gain sign off for tactical decisions
  • Proven experience of playing a part in the designing and costing bringing new products to market in a mature marketplace
  • Proven understanding of the endtoend vehicle lifecycle and experience of making decisions based on lifecycle management
  • Expertise across automotive finance, products, services and influences both micro and macroeconomic
  • A confident communicator who can influence all stakeholders up to Exec and Board level
