Job Description What your new role will entail;**As an experienced reservoir engineer, your role will be crucial in developing, leading, and collaborating within teams to successfully deliver challenging dams and reservoir projects. Your expertise will be instrumental in supporting our global Dams and Reservoir (D&R) and Hydro teams across existing projects and future opportunities.

Part of your role and responsibilities will include;

  • The role of the Associate Director is to provide technical leadership in the delivery of the design of new reservoirs and remedial work together with and inspection, investigation or design work for any related activities on reservoirs that fall within the scope of reservoir safety legislation. You will also be allocated a number of reservoirs to supervise under the Act.
  • The role will include ensuring the compliance by AECOM as required for the Reservoir Safety Legislation; signing of any necessary Certifications; performing any roles as required by the legislation for which AECOM are appointed by the Client; agreement on the technical approach/solution for the project and that it is appropriate to meet the Client's requirements; review of project technical risks and ensuring any project mitigation measures are in place to address the technical risk.
  • The role of Associate Director for Dams projects can be complex in nature and technical content. Projects include a minimum level of expertise in Hydrology, Hydraulics, Geotechnical, Structural Engineering as well as other Stakeholder and project delivery experience.

Being part of the team;


We have over 30 specialist Dams & Reservoirs Engineers based across our key Water Resources teams in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dublin and Leeds.

These skills are supplemented by support teams comprising specialists in Geotechnics, Hydrology & Hydraulics, Structures, H&S, Environment, Data and Project Management.


Building on a relationship spanning more than 10 years, AECOM continue to be a key framework consultant for Scottish Water ensuring compliance with the Reservoirs (Scotland) Act 2011 and delivering asset management services for over 280 reservoirs, including provision of panel engineers, inspection and supervision, design of remedial works and of new dam structures.

AECOM has also been the main provider of Dam Engineering Services to NI Water for approximately 50 years and is also actively providing Reservoir Engineering Services to Irish Water.

In addition, we provide Reservoir Engineering Services to many Local Councils, Enforcement Authorities and multiple private owners.

AECOM also have a global presence with key hubs in the USA, Africa and India and we have designed and supervised the construction of multiple large dams across the globe.


Based out of any of our UK offices you we will offer you a strong pipeline of challenging projects with the potential to work on international assignments should this be of interest.

There will also be an opportunity to build a strong team for the future by helping to mentor our developing engineers working towards panel appointments.

Qualifications Here's what we will need from you;**- A member of the Supervising Engineer Reservoirs Panel as appointed for all jurisdictions in the UK.

  • Have significant and up to date experience in Dams and Reservoir engineering work:
  • Inspection and reporting requirements and processes,
  • Geotechnical, hydraulic and hydrological understanding for catchment assessments,
  • Understanding of embankment and concrete dam construction elements, cutoff, grouting, slope stability, structural concrete design, impounding and nonimpounding structures, drawoff towers, pipework and valves, spillweirs and spillway channels, physical and CFD modelling and other risk assessment techniques
