    Electronics/ Electro-Mechanical Technician:

    Weare seeking a motivated, experienced and enthusiastic person to join our busyteam that service and manage a wide range of specialist medical devices acrossthe county of Worcestershire.

    Thecurrent vacancy is a post at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch and thesuccessful applicant will be expected to travel between other sites includingKidderminster Hospital on a regular basis as part of this post.

    Youwill have at least 2 years practical experience with electronic and or electromechanical medical equipment maintenance and hold a minimum BTEC qualificationor equivalent Electro Mechanical engineering qualification. The successful applicantwill also possess good general practical skills and have a sound knowledge of abroad range of medical equipment. Good communication and interpersonal skillsare a prerequisite.

    Job Title: Electronics / Electro-Mechanical Technician

    Job Purpose

    To provide a responsive and efficient technical supportservice for medical devices and decontamination equipment within, and on behalfof the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. To perform all duties requiredto provide safe operation of medical devices and decontamination equipmentthroughout their life cycle, this will include; pre-purchaseassessment/evaluation, commissioning, planned preventative maintenance,breakdown repairs, calibration checks, regulatory testing and decommissioningas required.

    All procedures are to beconducted within the departments quality procedures.

    Dimensions

    The post-holder will work under the supervision of senior grade staffas required. The post has no budgetary responsibility. There is a shared responsibilityto maintain all items of medical equipment varying in complexity from simplebattery operated equipment to advanced life support systems. The post-holdersworking base will be mainly mobile and significantly Ward based. Thepost-holder will be expected to travel between Trust sites and other clients asrequired. The post-holder willparticipate in a 24hour on-call rota as required.

    Key Relationships

    Internal:

    Nursing and Medical staff (all grades) in all clinicalareas, other healthcare professionals, department managers and staff, patients,relatives, Estates and facilities staff (all grades).

    External:

    GPsurgeries, other hospitals, manufacturers and representatives, MedicalHealthcare products Regulatory Authority, Patients and relatives.

    Risk Assessment

    Duties includes: open live working at low and highvoltages (at high current capacity), chemical and biological hazards, hightemperature pipework, high pressure steam and vacuum systems, operating activesurgical and therapeutic equipment, lifting heavy equipment up to 30kg (withassistance). Works with contaminated equipment and sharps.

    Works with visual display screen equipment on a regularbasis (occasionally for long periods).

    Key Responsibilities

    1.Responsible for the maintenance, undersupervision when necessary, (includes whole life-cycle of equipment,pre-commissioning evaluation, commissioning, planned maintenance, breakdownsand de-commissioning), of a wide range of patient connected medical equipment, decontaminationequipment in a safe, efficient and responsive manner causing the minimumdisruption to patient services.

    2.To work within clinical areas with Medical andNursing staff, (including patients), to resolve equipment issues as they arise.

    3.Will monitor progress on individual workrequests in their charge to ensure an efficient resolution.

    4.Will produce accurate service reports of workundertaken for audit purposes, (technical, financial, quality and statutory)

    5.Will operate the Technical Services database andall computer applications required to calibrate, test and repair equipment.

    6.Will operate all relevant test equipment andadvise the senior technician or Technical Services Manager of any issues asthey arise.

    7.Will participate in a rotational on-call systemas and when required, (only when deemed competent to do so).

    8.Will maintain good communication links withother departments and external bodies to uphold better understanding ofclinical applications and needs.

    9.Will keep the senior technician or TechnicalServices Manager informed of potential risks to the service, general issuesthat are appropriate to the delivery of the service.

    10. Willensure that all procedures to maintain the quality systems and Health andSafety policies of the department are adhered to, and will actively participatein any audit of the system that is deemed necessary.

    11. Willkeep abreast of and keep fully aware of technology development on matters thataffect or are associated with the Technical Services Department.

    12. Willattend manufacturers and health service courses to obtain the necessary skillsto undertake the duties of the post and maintain records of training received.

    13. Willidentify potential savings and implement measures to realize these whenrequested to do so.

    14. Willmaintain the departments stock system, and ensure adequate stock levels areidentified and refreshed as necessary.
