    Job summary

    We are recruiting for a Theatre Team Leader who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

    We have a new role available as Scrub Theatre Team Leader in the Procedure rooms at Lister and QE11.

    You will assist and care for patients undergoing a variety of elective (Vascular, Orthopaedics, Urology, Gynae, Plastics, ENT, Pain, Ophthalmology) and plastics trauma.

    Main duties of the job

    Maintain health, safety and control of Infection in clinical work areas.

    Assist and care for patients undergoing a variety of elective (Vascular, Orthopaedics, Urology, Gynae, Plastics, ENT, Pain, Ophthalmology) and plastics trauma.

    Receive, transfer and position patients for clinical procedure.

    Prepare equipment/ supplies and waste is kept to a minimum.

    Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure the safety and comfort of patients.

    Ability to work in any of the Theatre areas according to service needs, regardless of which theatre department they are based in, although it is anticipated that staff do permanently work in the department, they are employed to be based in.

    Act as clinical lead to staff at Band 6 and below

    Supervise staff within a specific area of responsibility.

    Participate in the training of ODP/Nursing students.

    Participate in supervision and training of qualified or unqualified staff.

    Act as a professional role model.

    Qualifications/Training

    Essential

  • RGN and/or ODP
  • Registration with NMC/HPC
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Mentorship / Preceptorship qualification
  • Desirable

  • Completion of relevant critical care modules at level 2 and /or level3 (Diploma/BSc)
  • Advanced life support certificate
  • Management qualification
  • Previous Experience

    Essential

  • Relevant experience in either an inpatient or day surgery theatre or other relevant clinical area at band 5 or equivalent.
  • Participation in formulation of procedures to ensure best practise
  • Teaching and assessing
  • Staff who wish to work as an anaesthetic assistant must have either the ODP qualification or Nurses must have additional formal post basic training in anaesthetics
  • Desirable

  • Peri-operative skilled in anaesthetics, recovery and scrub.
  • Experience in a specialised area of theatre work

  • Be able work within an environment which where you will be exposed to blood, body tissue and body fluids
  • Be able to work in close proximity to patients undergoing open and closed operative procedures.

  • Able to stand still for long periods of time which could be for the duration of any operative procedure
