Library Assistant - Part Time
London
£12.91 per hour
Monday to Thursday
3pm - 8pm (20 hours a week)
To start Monday 15th May 2023 until Thursday 10th August 2023
The first week will require working hours of 10.00am - 3.00pm to attend induction sessions and any team meetings.
A requirement to work 2 Sundays during the contract is essential. Sunday hours will be 10.00am - 6.00pm
About the company
A London based, higher education client has a requirement for a Part Time Library Assistant to help facilitate and
maintain consistent high standards to all students and faculty. All library users must be able to automatically rely
upon the service as a source of help and guidance, this should never be in any doubt, and the Library Assistant role
holder plays a key part in this.
What you'll be doing
- Assisting students and faculty with literature searches using online and printed resources,
- Work to ensure copyright compliance in all library activities where this has a direct impact.
- Perform Blackboard maintenance and optimisation (central to all BU London courses) such as the
- Senior presence in the library during evenings, and at other times as necessary.
- Prime responsibility for closing the building in the evening and ensuring it is secure when leaving.
- Providing support to other London colleagues, such as Academic and Student Affairs
- Cataloguing new acquisitions
- Providing basic maintenance of the Library's PCs, photocopiers and printers, and ensuring
- Shelving and tidying of material on openaccess and keeping the library neat, tidy
- Other duties and tasks as may be assigned by the Librarian.
Why you'll be hired
To be considered for this role you will require:
- Educated to bachelor's degree level.
- Library qualification beneficial but not essential.
- Experience if working with international students advantageous but not essential.
- Flexible approach to the role and ability to work evenings.
- Experience of frontline library services, working with a wide range of service users.
- Working knowledge of UK copyright and responsible use of thirdparty materials: rights
- Experience of working with Library Management Systems (Alma)
- Ability to plan, manage workloads, organise and work with mínimal supervision.
- Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
Empathetic approach to students, and ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with key stake holders in the library such as Faculty members, and all London colleagues.
- Experience of using educational technology such as Blackboard.
