This role will entail the booking and managing of dermatology procedures for a delegated number of consultants at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

The bookings will require efficient, effective and comprehensive administrative support in order to ensure that targets are met in accordance with NHS and Trust policy.


This role will require the individual to play a key central role within the Dermatology department and to work in close liaison with NHS colleagues, patients, the Care Group Management team and the Dermatology clinical team.

The individual will need to exercise initiative, independent judgement and be able to make decisions in an effective, high-quality manner.

This role will require attention to detail, ensuring that all aspects of procedures are completed in accordance to Trust ensuring a patient focused approach to all aspects of the role.


This role entails the booking and management of the dermatology procedures for a delegated number of consultants at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

The role also ensures coordination of all Dermatology procedures within the Dermatology department ensuring all admissions, any associated pre-operative assessments are completed in a timely manner.

Experience in Dermatology procedures would be desirable in order to maximise the management of theatre time.

Main Responsibilities

Communication

  • To act as a named contact point, liaising with patient and relatives, as well as medical representatives, GPs and other hospitals, nursing staff and support staff. This can be face to face in clinics or over the telephone.
  • To provide advice to patients in matters relating to their procedures (pre and postoperative guidance) and in respect of their position on the waiting list.
  • To deal with enquiries from all service users in a helpful, courteous and diplomatic manner.
  • To ensure information regarding patients' special needs and /or comorbidities is documented and communicated as required.
  • To communicate all planned procedures to Consultants and relevant staff.
  • To ensure that lists are fully utilised and running in conjunction to Consultants annual/study leave to maximise full capacity.
Planning/Organisation

  • To take a lead role in managing the waiting list of a group of Dermatology Consultants in accordance with Trust Policies and Government waiting list targets.
  • Monitor the waiting list and work list on a daily basis to ensure no breaches and full maximising of sessions are utilised.
  • To coordinate the admission and associated preoperative assessment clinics, ensuring all key hospital staff are aware of organisational arrangements and that relevant medical records are available at the time of procedure.
  • To coordinate consultant's theatre lists, including selecting appropriate cases in clinical/chronological order and with appropriate attention to medical requirements of the procedures.
  • To ensure that problems highlighted from routine reports are actioned in a time matter. Eg. TCI outcomes.
  • To arrange any additional lists/overruns of existing lists to accommodate.
  • To ensure that information regarding additional resources is passed to patients' as required.
  • To arrange interpretation services for all relevant procedures.
  • Compile and maintain data and/or other detailed information that is then handed off for analysis.
  • Accurately maintain routine departmental/service records that may be referenced or audited for purposes of legal record or financial accountability.
  • Contribute to an efficient running of all services related to the job.
Other Duties

  • Undertake any other adhoc duties as requested commensurate with the grade of the post.
