    Research Manager - Mixed Methods

    We are looking for a Research Manager, who will be responsible for day-to-day project and client management for social research mixed methods studies in the UK. This will involve project planning and research design, quality delivery and profitability management, as well as line-management duties for one or more junior researchers, supporting their work and development.

    The successful candidate will play a major supporting role on large scale surveys in the team. This role presents an exciting opportunity to demonstrate and develop skills in a wide range of areas including quantitative questionnaire and qualitative research materials design, complex fieldwork and survey management, analysis and reporting and client management. Candidates should be confident in a client facing role, as the role will require attending and contributing to client meetings, debriefs and presentations.

    Responsibilities

    • Confidently engages with clients and lead client relationships on projects
    • Highly organised in project management, while working on multiple studies. Can effectively delegate tasks to junior team members and co-ordinate their work
    • Cand design high-quality survey questionnaires and other research materials, with minimal changes required from senior colleagues
    • Lead analysis and development of reporting deliverables (e.g. presentations, written reports)
    • Team player, successfully developing individual and team capability
    • Well-rounded mixed method researcher, with strong quantitative skills
    • Good understanding of project budgets and cost control
    • Support business development activity
    • Line management of more junior researchers

    Requirements

    • Proven research project management skills – strong client handling skills and an ability to coordinate a research team and deliver work to time and budget
    • Strong at interpreting data in tables and graphs, finding the story in that data, and telling that story to clients in a way which is compelling but doesn't lose sight of the evidence
    • Excellent attention to detail, and verbal and written communication skills – preparing engaging, authoritative and insightful presentations and reports
    • Experience in classical quantitative survey research methods such as telephone, online and ABOS methods
    • Experience of working on large scale quantitative surveys and/or evaluations
    • Experience of mixed method working or mixed mode surveys (e.g. online+CATI) would be advantageous
    • Preferably this will include social research experience, working with government and not-for-profit clients
    • Proficient in using SPSS (or SAS, Stata, R, or similar)
    • Strong delivery/verbal presentation to clients
    • Strong experience of managing of multiple tasks and priorities and delivering to time
    • Good client handling skills
    • Energy, enthusiasm, motivation, team player
