    Description

    Job Description

Sumer is a fast-growing business services platform that is dedicated to championing small and medium businesses, helping communities prosper, right across the UK and Ireland. This is a unique opportunity to join an ambitious team at the early stages of its journey.

In February 2024 we launched Sumer Law, the newest service line to sit alongside our rapidly expanding group of accountancy firms - collectively a top 15 UK accountancy practice. Corporate law advice is a foundational element of building out our legal services arm and this role will be instrumental in helping us define and grow an industry leading private practice proposition for SMEs.

Sitting at the juncture of Sumer Law, our accountancy hubs and our clients, this is a rare opportunity for a technically proficient yet entrepreneurial solicitor to not only deliver great outcomes for clients, but to help build a professional services business that champions SMEs right across the UK.

Based in London and working out of our regional accountancy hub on a hybrid basis.

    Who we are looking for:

    • A qualified corporate solicitor with a minimum of 2 years' PQE to form part of a remote legal practice that works closely with Sumer's regional accountancy hubs.
    • The ability to not only deliver outstanding client work, but to do so autonomously whilst building a department, albeit with support from Sumer's Head of Legal, an experienced corporate solicitor.
    • A desire to build out non-legal competencies across marketing, business development, compliance and legal operations.
    • A flexible, proactive and opportunistic attitude towards building relationships with peers within our accountancy hubs in order to deliver exceptional client outcomes.
    • A growth mindset motivated by an alternative career path that, whilst still reliant on delivering a private practice service to clients, also involves developing a business.

    Key responsibilities:

Guide SME businesses through the delivery of pragmatic and fit-for-purpose corporate legal advice. In the short term and as a non-SRA regulated entity, you would offer only non-reserved legal activities to clients, but would be instrumental in our journey to becoming a fully SRA-regulated entity.

Provide legal advice and guidance to SME and business clients on corporate matters, including:

    • Corporate restructures (e.g. share for share exchanges, demergers)
    • Company and business sales and acquisitions
    • Investments and share issues
    • Corporate governance
    • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of corporate documents, including shareholders' agreements, articles of association, loan agreements, and share purchase agreements
    • Work closely with clients to understand their business objectives and develop tailored legal solutions to meet their needs.
    • Collaborate with accountancy partners within the Sumer group in order to provide high quality and joined-up client service.

    What's in it for you:

    • You will have the opportunity to be an early hire in what will become a top 15 professional services firm in the UK.
    • The opportunity to define and built a practice that delivers legal services to SME clients the way you think they should be delivered.
    • Sumer Law has a flexible working policy – please ask for more detail
    • Sumer Law offers a competitive benefits package, including funding for individual learning and development.
    • An environment to grow and create your own career opportunities.
    • We support hybrid working and, while flexible, to maximise learning we would see this role being based 2-3 days per week at a local accountancy hub.
    • This role will involve some travel around UK and Ireland
