    Job summary

    We are looking to recruit a Band 5 Occupational Therapist in the Surgical Therapy Team at York Hospital. We are seeking motivated and proactive individual with a passion for Occupational Therapy. This post would suit a newly registered practitioner or someone looking to develop specialist skills and knowledge in the area of surgery.

    We are a welcoming, supportive team and offer opportunities to work across a number of specialties; Vascular, Colorectal and Upper GI, Urology, Head & Neck, Gynaecology and Critical Care. We are looking for someone who is keen to develop and promote Occupational Therapy in acute surgery.

    We are proud to offer our Multi-Professional Preceptorship Programme to all newly registered practitioners. This is a wonderful opportunity to welcome you into your new team and our Trust, providing you with support and guidance as you develop in confidence and competence. The programme lasts for 12 months and includes dedicated time, away from clinical practice to support new graduates' transition from student to autonomous practitioner.

    Main duties of the job

    As a qualified registered occupational therapist, you will be responsible for delivering effective safe, quality, person-centred care in the acute setting . You will be encouraged to develop your knowledge, skills and confidence across the 4 pillars of practice: Clinical, Leadership, Education and Research/Audit. You would be part of a dedicated, knowledgeable multi-disciplinary team.

    The role will allow the successful candidate to develop a broad range of skills and there are opportunities to work alongside experienced clinicians. The whole team are committed to on-going staff training, development and supervision. You will have access to a leadership team including Occupational Therapy Clinical Lead, Management Team and Professional Leadership Team.

    Person Specification

    Education and Training

    Essential

  • Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist
  • Desirable

  • Membership of Professional Body
  • Evidence of postgraduate training within occupational therapy or specialist area
  • Evidence of relevant CPD activities
  • Experience & Knowledge Required

    Essential

  • Evidence of knowledge relevant to role.
  • A range of registered clinical experience or occupational therapy student placements.
  • Working knowledge of a broad range of conditions and impact on occupational performance.
  • Good working knowledge of Occupational Therapy process and experience in delivering Occupational therapy including assessment, clinical reasoning, intervention, evaluation, and models of practice
  • Desirable

  • NHS experience through placement and/or employment work
  • Experience of acute care work, complex discharge planning
  • Good working knowledge of outcome measures to evaluate clinical treatment
  • Evidence of clinical and knowledge skills within relevant area

  • Ability to present information, written and verbally in a clear and logical manner
