    The project:

    Sizewell C

    Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting and largest megaprojects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK's climate change agenda and energy policy.

    Sizewell C will be a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes, playing a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years.

    This is an exciting opportunity to be involved right from the start of such a historic project. Work to date has primarily focused on enabling works for site readiness. Civils work is commencing with great speed in the following areas: road, rail, fencing, security, water systems, utilities, and the build of modular and industrial facilities.

  • The senior commercial manager shall work with and integrate with the wider project delivery teams and contribute to commercial, procurement, contract administration, preconstruction and delivery stage activity. To perform the role, you will take responsibility for end to end service delivery, often with respect to large and complex commissions. To ensure that client objectives are met through the delivery of a value-added commercial management service.

    You'll be responsible for:

  • Having competence administering NEC contract forms.
  • Supporting the procurement of services and contractors.
  • Managing the change control procedure.
  • Managing and building relationships with suppliers, monitoring and reporting their performance and compliance.
  • Preparing recommendations for interim payments to suppliers in accordance with contract requirements and produce payment certificates for sign off by the appropriate project manager.
  • Providing post contract award commercial services for both 'goods' and 'services' up to and including final account.
  • Maintaining financial impact assessments for instructed change.
  • Negotiating on financial impacts of compensation events with suppliers.
  • Maintaining the project data sets to achieve consistency, accuracy and alignment.
  • Assisting cost and expenditure planning/benchmarking (including the completion of data capture analysis (DCA) sheets) in accordance with the client process.
  • Supporting cost management, supply chain trending estimating and forecasting to the project.
  • Evaluating cost performance data and provide relevant input for monthly performance reports.
  • Supporting the management of budget and spend profiles continually identifying ways to improve cost performance.
  • Managing the impact of inflation currencies and exchanges into forecasting and aligned with tracking indices.
  • Carrying out a cost impact analysis of proposed changes to scope/schedule.
  • Assisting project managers in the preparation of cost reports and analysis on a work breakdown structure /activity basis, identifying areas of learning and any recommendations for efficiency improvement.
  • You'll need to have:

  • A degree in a relevant construction related qualification and are a chartered professional member (RICS or CIOB).
  • Proven experience working in high performing teams within a commercial environment.
  • Good working knowledge of contracts (particularly NEC), change control, valuations, cost reporting and financial modelling.
  • Good negotiating, influencing and communication skills to command professional respect at all levels is essential.
  • Demonstrable experience in delivering service excellence to clients.
  • A construction background, ideally in cost or commercial management and be keen to grow your career and enjoy the opportunities Mace has to offer.
  • Prepared to be present on site 2-3 days per week
