    Contract
    Description
    The role

This critical role within the Income service area is responsible for delivery of an effective debt management function, covering both student and commercial debt owed to the University. The Income team supports the operation of the University by ensuring all income from student fees, research, and commercial activities is received and recorded efficiently, accurately, and in a timely and secure manner. The Credit Control Manager monitors, reports on, and drives activities across the institution to effectively manage a debt profile which changes over the course of the academic year: balancing the needs of the University with the wellbeing of its students.

    What will you be doing?

Within the Income service area, the Credit Control team ensures the timely collection of monies due to the University. You will draw on expertise within the team, contacts across the University, and our debt management partners to optimise the management of both student and commercial debt, ensuring the very different requirements of each are reflected within business processes and decision-making. You will own regular and ad hoc reporting on the University's debt position to a wide range of senior stakeholders, performance tracking for the Credit Control function, and preparing detailed data as required to support wider business decisions and forecasting.

You will lead a team of Income Officers and a Senior Income Officer, directing the activity of team members to ensure the delivery of team priorities, aligned to key points in the academic year. You will be accountable for ensuring the quality of both service delivery and the accuracy and integrity of transaction data within your area; and will use relevant performance information to monitor and continuously improve processes. You will be responsible for driving team performance through clear objectives and regular interactions, supporting professional development, and coaching and mentoring team members; and will actively promote a culture of taking ownership and collaborative working with stakeholders.

As a member of the Income Leadership Team, you will work collaboratively with other Managers to ensure smooth operational running of the Income service area as a whole, and drive forward an ambitious change and improvement agenda to enhance both efficiency and service quality.

    You should apply if
  • You are highly self-motivated, willing to take ownership of solving complex challenges, and able to manage competing demands and work effectively with others under pressure.
  • You have a 'big picture' mindset and understanding of how income and debt management can support wider institutional objectives, a positive and pragmatic attitude to change, and an ability to lead and motivate others to excel. You are keen to leverage your professional expertise to recommend and support the implementation of appropriate enhancements to process and policy.
  • You are driven by a desire to improve working practices, uphold and maintain robust financial controls, and create a positive environment for both students and colleagues.
  • You have strong data analysis and reporting skills, with the ability to identify, combine, and analyse data to answer specific business questions, present data in a clear and simple format, and explain complex financial data to non-specialists.
  • You are experienced in drawing conclusions from complex datasets and able to use this information to prioritise team workload.
