    Description

    Brief Description:

    The job holder will be part of a horticultural team that supports both research and production activities related to the supply of cannabinoid-based medicines.

    Provision of all aspects of plant husbandry including propagation, maintenance, harvest and processing of research material grown within the glasshouse facility. The candidate is expected to have a good understanding of their duties and ensure they are conducted within a good practice (GxP) environment and operate within the bounds of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).They will develop a degree of specialism within one or more aspects of the role.

    Essential Functions/Responsibilities

    The job holder will be expected to be proficient in and carry out the following activities with indirect supervision

  • Preparation and planting of seeds.
  • Propagation of plants via cuttings.
  • Potting and movement of plants.
  • Irrigating of plants manually or via a fertigation system.
  • Scouting for pests and disease and applying biological controls.
  • Crop monitoring.
  • Harvesting and agronomic assessment of plants.
  • Processing of and milling of botanical raw material (BRM) and quality related samples.
  • Preparation and labelling of harvested material to be placed in drying rooms.
  • Stripping and recording of dried plant material in preparation for milling.
  • Documenting movement of plants and processes samples in line with company practice and government regulations.
  • Recording of phenotypic observations onto scoresheets or databases.
  • As part of the role there is a requirement to work weekends on a rotational basis after an initial probationary period
  • Execute additional tasks as requested to meet departmental project, development or change objectives.
  • Assist in the training of new or less experienced colleagues
  • Can identify clear mistakes as they occur and rectify at source.
  • Be highly competent in all tasks and have a degree of specialism within the role.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrable experience working within a glasshouse production or research facility
  • A relevant horticultural qualification at Level 3 or above (. BTEC National Diploma). Relevant experience may be considered in-lieu of formal qualifications.
  • Experience in a record based or quality environment
  • Complete risk assessments and SOPs
  • Demonstrate competency of horticultural practices.
  • Demonstrates a can-do approach.
  • Computer literate.
  • A willingness to share ideas and information.
  • Required/Preferred Education and Licenses

  • Counterbalance forklift truck licence
