    ICT Networking Engineer

    Based: Reading

    Division: ICT Services

    Department: Service Operations

    Reports to (Job Title): Infrastructure Manager

    Main Goal

    As a Networking Infrastructure engineer you will provide proactive management of our customer networking and firewall platform estates, monitoring and management of existing configurations and identifying risks and opportunities to improve the security, robustness and resilience.

    Responsibilities/Tasks

    • Be part of the Infrastructure team to support and managed both our internal and external customer base, while adhering to ISO27001, ISO20001, Cyber Essentials plus standards and best practice methodology.
    • To be responsible for both our customers and our own networking Infrastructure, enabling our systems and services to reside on the most secure, reliable and resilient platforms while consolidating existing Infrastructures and reducing costs.
    • To manage the planning, change control and execution of all networking infrastructure upgrades and implementations.
    • To provide an escalation route for all Infrastructure incidents where 1st, 2nd and 3rd line avenues have been followed.
    • To provide auditing and reporting for all internal and customers I.T infrastructures, to highlight risks and plans for mitigation.
    • To identify new products and technologies where we are currently vulnerable or exposed, particularly from a network or security perspective.
    • To provide guidance and support to the wider ICT Services division in line with the our internal IT strategy.
    • To assist with the expansion of our ICT Services (Business Solutions) throughout our own, regional and global headquarters business channels, enabling scalability of our platforms and services to achieve this.
    • To support cost control and be responsible for producing financial approvals through RINGI system for any Infrastructure investment.
    • To own the training and mentoring of junior service desk team members

    Tasks that you could be expected to own and support;

    • Provide a technical escalation route for all Infrastructure problems/incidents.
    • Perform research and provide documented recommendations to improve and enhance our internal
    • infrastructure and Managed Service products and services to our external customers.
    • Provide support for internal and Delivery I.T projects with relevant technical documentation.
    • To manage all monitoring and alerting functions to meet internal and external customer SLA's
    • To manage patch/firmware management schedule for all internal and external networking environments.
    • To assist and support with all Business Continuity Planning requirements.
    • To support any emergency Business Continuity and/or Disaster Recovery actions if required.
    • To manage all User and System Access rights and permissions through Change Request process.
    • Ensure all system updates and asset management records are current and correct.
    • Provide system and network reporting for monitoring purposes and senior management reviews.
    • To support Presales requests for Infrastructure led Managed Service proposals when required.
    • To identify, develop and introduce new Managed Services into our product portfolio.
    • To research and investigate new products in new technology areas such as IoT and to produce business cases where applicable for business approval and adoption.
    • Any other tasks as directed

    Knowledge, Experience & Skills

    • Exceptional technical knowledge of IT networks with minimum 5+ years experience working as a Networking engineer
    • Ideally 5+ years experience working with Fortinet products with associated certification
    • Knowledge of Cisco and Meraki kit an advantage
    • Familiarity with and ability to drive network segmentation approaches to ensure secure and robust network configurations
    • Solid technical knowledge of IT systems and virtualisation products
    • Good technical knowledge of multifunctional and printer products
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to prioritize work under pressure and strict deadlines.
    • Ability to communicate and advise technical/service information to different levels.
    • Excellent customer handling skills
