Islington Town Hall is the home of "Say I do" in Islington and the City of London.

The Town Hall, on fashionable Upper Street, is home to the registration service and our ceremony rooms.

This impressive, listed building, with its grand façade and sweeping marble staircase, provides an elegant setting for ceremonies, and an impressive backdrop for photographs.


The Role:

About you:


We are looking for Sessional Deputy Registrars to join us and play an important and exciting role in the lives of our couples and make a lasting contribution to their life defining moments.

You will be responsible for conducting and registering weddings and civil partnerships at the Town Hall, religious buildings and some of London's most impressive approved premises in Islington and the City of London.


You don't need to have any experience, but we are looking for enthusiasm and a passion to provide magical ceremony experiences for our couples.

We're looking for friendly, calm, warm, well presented people with excellent spoken English and second to none customer service skills.

You will be organised, tactful and capable of thinking on your own two feet


Due to the nature of the work, you will be required to work mainly weekends and some bank holidays, but there will also be weekday work if that fits with your availability.

To be part of the Registration Team working on a casual basis, offering a dedicated and professional service to our customers.


To register marriages and civil partnerships and to conduct marriages, civil partnerships and other celebratory services such as British Citizenship Ceremonies, Renewal of Vows and Naming Ceremonies.


  • To deputise as directed and register marriages and civil partnerships, both in the Town Hall and at other designated venues in Islington and the City of London.
  • Check authorities and schedules are in order and interview the parties to ensure a marriage or civil partnership can proceed.
  • To be responsible for custody of ceremony documentation when attending to register marriages and civil partnerships as directed by the Registration and Citizenship Services Manager at the register office, churches and other religious buildings, or any approved venue.
  • To provide administrative support for officers delivering non statutory ceremonies including citizenship ceremonies, ceremonies, naming ceremonies and reaffirmation of wedding vows.
  • To collect all statutory and non statutory fees and account for all fees in accordance with financial directives.
  • To attend and support in the performance of citizenship ceremonies.
  • To assist in the completion and administer a computer database of all marriage and civil partnerships that occur within Islington and the City of London.
  • Make handwritten registrations of marriage and civil partnership and issue certificates where appropriate.
  • To use and assist others in the use of information technology systems to carry out duties in the most efficient and effective manner.
  • To achieve agreed service outcomes and outputs, and personal appraisal targets, as agreed by the line manager.
  • To undertake training and constructively take part in meetings, supervision, seminars and other events designed to improve communication and assist with the effective development of the post and post holder.
  • To undertake other duties commensurate to the grade of the post.
