    This position offers an exciting opportunityto contribute to the continuous improvement of policing and fireand rescue services in Essex.

    The PFCC is seekinga Scrutiny Officer to ensure the efficient and effective running ofa range of governance boards and scrutiny functions through theprovision of high quality, proactive support andadministration. This is a broad and varied role which will besupporting a number of governance boards and project managing anyscrutiny reviews commissioned by thoseboards.

    What we are lookingfor

    We are therefore seeking anindividual who is well organised and adept at prioritising theirworkloads and managing competing demands appropriately whilst stillmaintaining high standards. The successful applicant will beeducated to an A Level or equivalent vocational qualification orabove and will demonstrate considerable experience of providing aneffective administrative support function, preferably within apublic sector environment. They will pride themselves onaccuracy and attention to detail.

    The rolerequires excellent communication skills and confidence in dealingface to face, via telephone and in writing with a wide range ofstakeholders. The successful applicant will possess theinterpersonal skills and style necessary to develop and maintainpositive working relationships with colleagues across the PFCC'soffice, Essex Police and the Essex County Fire and Rescue Serviceas well as with other elected officials, representatives of otherexternal bodies and the general public.

    Thesuccessful applicant will be able to work competently andconfidently both on their own initiative and as part of ateam. We are a small, friendly team, so seek applicants whowork cooperatively with others to get things done, who willinglygive help and support to colleagues, and who equally ask for helpand support when they need it.

    Applicants will berequired to demonstrate sound working knowledge of data protectionand information security legislation and principles and must beable to deal appropriately with confidential and sensitivematerial.

The PFCC offers agileworking, which designates that certain roles can offer flexibilityin terms of place of working, including some home working. In theevent that home working is agreed for the successful candidate,there will be a requirement to regularly attend the contractualworkplace, as agreed with the linemanager.
