A&P Falmouth - Health & Safety Officer


As part of our commitment to excellence and safety we are looking for another Health and Safety Officer for our Falmouth Facility to support and maintain our team's awareness of the potential for unplanned losses of people, time, reputation and equipment.


A&P Falmouth, part of the APCL Group, have 3 docks providing capacity, wharfage with craneage and all other technical services, extending to 2.5km.

Our number one priority is to safeguard the safety and wellbeing of our staff, customers and sub-contractors.

So what will you do?

  • As part of our shared values, you will stop any unsafe working practices or conditions ensuring a solution is found to carry on with production
  • You'll provide guidance on Health and Safety policies, procedures and standards in line with legislation, our company policy and approved Codes of Practice as well as the Health & Safety at Work Act, the guidelines of ISO14001 and OHSAS 4500
  • Advising our teams on safe methods of working you'll keep us on track with compliance and procedures
  • Where unplanned losses occur, you'll investigate the event to identify the root cause, correcting them and subsequently advising of mitigation methods
  • Carrying out H&S inspections, with management, customers and our teams you'll be identifying issues and assisting finding solutions to them. This includes internal & external audits
  • You'll be on call during unsociable hours and if is needed you'll visit the facility during these times
  • You will ensure that all of our teams including subcontractors, customer representatives and visitors receive Health & Safety training
  • Issuing, validating, monitoring and control permits you'll follow the A&P procedures for permit to work issuance on dedicated projects
  • You'll investigate, report and recommend action on accidents, near misses and nonconformance's, liaising with outside agencies
  • Carrying out and assist others with, risk assessments and safe systems of work you'll include subcontractors and customers also assessing and monitoring subcontractors when on site

And what are we looking for?

  • NEBOSH general certificate / NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent
  • Experience of working within the HSEQ function if and industrial / engineering environment with good knowledge of best practice within HSEQ
  • As a sensible and precautionary measure and to provide a level of assurance on trustworthiness, integrity and reliability, if you secure the position, we'll need to run you through a security check to get BPSS clearance
  • You'll need to be an excellent communicator and able to build effective working relationships
