    A little bit about us:
    East West Rail is a proposed new railway linking communities between Oxford and Cambridge. The area is currently let down by a lack of transport choices, and we have a once in a generation opportunity to fix that – improving prosperity for people and places along the way.

    East West Railway Company (that's us) was created by the Department for Transport (DfT) to oversee the delivery of East West Rail from construction through to wheels in motion, making sure the railway comes together in the right way.

    Role Summary:
    The purpose of the Project Manager role is to ensure effective management of EWR projects, ensuring they are delivered to the agreed time, budget, scope, and quality, in a safe manner. The PM is responsible for leading successful delivery of each stage of the project lifecycle. The PM must work as part of a larger ecosystem made up of a variety of stakeholders such as the Programme/Project Lead, quality assurance, specialist contributors, as well as client and end user representatives. In addition, the PM must be able to maintain and report on progress of projects and keep a live list of all the risks and issues that arise as the plan is being implemented.

    Team dimensions:
    East West Rail operates a matrix structure. This role sits within the Programme and Project Community in the Programme Operations Professional Home.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Ensure the effective co-ordination of all project elements in line with budget, time, scope, and quality.
    • Leverage and utilise the right resources at the right time to successfully deliver the project aims.
    • Ensure key project delivery strategies and plans are prepared, signed off, implemented, and updated where required.
    • In collaboration with the Risk Manager, ensure a clear process for the identification and management of any risks and issues that arise, as well as monitoring their effective management.
    • In collaboration with the Planner, and adopting a lifecycle approach, the Project Manager must develop, maintain, own, and track the schedule of a project, ensuring clear outcomes, decisions with assigns across each milestone and critical milestones and paths clearly detailed.
    • Proactively monitor and assess any change in scope and ensure the agreed change control process is followed.
    • Collaborate with the project team to ensure alignment in the ways of working.
    • Maintain a log of lessons learnt throughout all stages of the project lifecycle.
    • Ensure that lessons learnt are implemented to support more effective delivery of other projects within EWR
    • Ensure that the delivery and development of projects is compliant with EWR processes and procedures.
    • Communicate with statutory, legal, and local authorities, residents' associations and contractors to maintain and promote a positive EWR Co corporate image.
    • Manage budget and deliverables and where required monitor and prepare reports.
    • Take responsibility of your own and others' health and safety by adopting and working to the EWR Co Health and Safety principles.
    • Act as a role model for EWR Co's vision and behaviours, working in ways that are aligned with EWR Co's Ways of Working, as well as encouraging and supporting others to do so too.


    Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

      • Significant experience in the management and delivery of a project of relevant size and complexity across the whole lifecycle
      • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities, whilst facilitating the progress of the project.
      • Ability to adapt to changing priorities to successfully enable delivery of project outcomes.
      • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to bring together relevant stakeholders when needed to assure the success of a project.
      • Uses learnings from projects to improve plans, process, and practices.
      • Strong analytical skills, with an ability to produce reports as required by the Project Lead or other senior stakeholders.
      • Take responsibility of your own and others' health and safety by adopting and working to the EWR Co Health and Safety principles.
      • Act as a role model for EWR Co's vision and behaviours, working in ways that are aligned with EWR Co's Ways of Working, as well as encouraging and supporting others to do so too.
    • Education and qualifications:
      • APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or PMI equivalent. PRINCE2 certification could be considered, coupled with relevant experience.
    • Desirable:
      • Chartered member or working towards chartership of a professional body.
      • Degree educated or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
