    This post is open to NHS Lanarkshire employees only.

    The Role

    This is an new, exciting secondment opportunity for a Band 7 Registered Nurse. The opportunity is offered for one person for 9.5 hrs per week for a twelve-month period (April 2024 – April 2025).

    The successful practitioner will work as part of the clinical skills team in the design, development and delivery of Simulation Based Education. The aim of the opportunity is to support the practitioner in developing personal skills as a simulation based educator. The area of work is primarily medical education with strong elements of interprofessional learning.

    As a seconded clinical skills specialist you will be based at the Medical Education Training Centre, Kirklands Hospital. The secondment will include access to learning opportunities to aid development as a simulation based educator aligned to the CSMEN national faculty development structure.

    The skills, knowledge and experience required for this secondment:

    • Registered nurse with valid NMC registration.
    • Enthusiastic, knowledgeable and skilful practitioner.
    • Experience in an acute care environment with advanced knowledge of emergency patient assessment and advanced resuscitation skills.
    • Educated to / operating at Masters level.
    • Completed or commenced further learning/development in the last 3 years.
    • Excellent team working skills with the ability to work autonomously.
    • Role modelling positive professional attitudes and behaviours in all areas of practice.
    • The ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders.
    • Willingness to further develop teaching, assessment and facilitation of learning skills.
    • Contribute to the development of education programmes based on identified learning needs.
    • Be a car driver with access to a car as travel is a pivotal part of the role across NHS Lanarkshire.
    • Have identified to your line manager/KSF Reviewer a development aspiration in relation to education.
    • Have agreement in place from your local line manager that if you are successful you are able to be released to undertake the role.

    What we'll need you to bring

    Specific experience and educational requirements include:-

    • Registered Nurse or Healthcare Professional with valid NMC / HCPC or equivalent Registration
    • Post graduate expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safely, effectively and efficiently.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality / area of practice
    • Educated to or operating at masters level
    • Evidence of effective clinical leadership
    • Evidence of personal contribution and leading of service redesign projects
    • Excellent team working skills, with ability to work on own initiative
    • Advanced knowledge in critical care life science emergency assessment and advanced resuscitation skills
    • An interest in simulation
    • A certificate in simulation facilitation (desirable)
    • Computer literate
    • Commitment to own personal experiential and academic development

    It would be great if you also have

    • Certificate in Simulation Facilitation
    • Pg Certificate in Education
    • Extensive Post Registration experience
    • Expert practice in Acute care environment e.g. CCU / HDU / ITU
    • Experience of teaching in a clinical and simulated environment
    • Experience in project management
    • Experience of conflict management and resolution
    • Experience of programme planning
    • ALS Instructor
    • Knowledge of and ability to teach a wide range of clinical skills
    • Presentation skills
    • Ability to develop presentations using PowerPoint
    • Excellent communication skills with ability to network communicate with staff across all disciplines at local and national levels
    • Good organisational / planning skills
    • Flexible to meet the needs of the Service

    Contract type

    Fixed Term or Secondment for 1 year

    Part Time

    9.5 hours

    Please note this is a part time post and the salary for this position will be pro-rata.

    Please note this is a fixed term post for 1 year. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.

    From 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37.5 to 37 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

    NHS Lanarkshire will implement this change but it may not be possible to fully transition from 1 April and there may therefore be some areas of the organisation where implementation may take longer. If the department is currently unable to safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety - you will, of course, be remunerated accordingly. NHS Lanarkshire is committed to full implementation of the 37 hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so.
