We are now recruiting for the exciting roles of Pipe Stress Engineer / Senior Pipe Stress Engineer , to be involved in in a game changing role as we strive to make the nuclear industry more diverse.
Job Purpose:
The Pipe Stress / Senior Engineer will sit within the Reactor Island Component Structural Analysis team and work closely with the component design and layout teams to deliver stress analysis capability across the piping systems and pipe supporting elements within the SMR.
This will include delivering structural analysis to support a range of needs including assessments in accordance with ASME B31, ASME III including subsections NB, NC, ND and NF, and seismic requirements.
In addition to this, the role requires the engineer to provide support to our supply chain partners in reviewing and advising analysis work performed in the supply chain as well as producing the necessary guidance to ensure effective and efficient ways of working across the team.
Support may also be required to undertake tasks to support the design of pipework systems or undertake 3D Finite Element Analysis but this will be dependent on the demand within the team and the candidate's experience and expertise.
Key Results & What Can Be Achieved inThe Role:
Understand, define and analyse pipework and pipe supports to meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Deliver pipe stress analysis, pipe support design and selection; and pipework system design including flange, gasket, and bolting selection and calculations in line with the demands of the product programmes.
Provide technical expertise and opinion in supporting design work and making design decisions within the IPTs.Assist in defining the methods and ways of working for pipework and pipe support justification in an evolving business.
Assist with the elicitation and management of pipework and component requirements from a structural analysis perspective.
Support ongoing concept optioneering by applying a sprint mentality to structural assessments that are fit for purpose.
Deliver value into the design processes by informing decisions and engineering direction using appropriate analysis.
The Key Selection Criteria:
Experience of undertaking design code assessments to both industry and internationally recognised codes; ideally ASME B31 series, ASME III Div 1, NB, NC/ND and NF.
Proficient user of pipe stress analysis programmes, ideally Autopipe, however experience of similar proprietary analysis programmes such as PepS, ADLPipe, CAESAR, PSA5 would be beneficial.
Programme Management, including:
Definition of a project/programme of work
Delivery of programme milestones in line with agreed plans and budget
Management of supply chain
Management of risks
Monitoring and effective reporting of progress
Nuclear Industry knowledge / experience. Familiarity with safety case regimes and justification within an industry with a high regulatory regime would be beneficial.
Experience of other assessment types or methods such as high energy line break analysis, pressure vessel or dynamic stress analysis would be desirable but not a requirement for the role.
Qualifications & Training:
Qualified to degree level or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
Chartered Mechanical Engineer (or equivalent) with experience including responsibility for technically leading projects.
Good mastery of undertaking pipe stress assessments
Planning and organising skills to manage programme activities and deliverables.
Ability to communicate effectively with any audience, quickly establishing credibility and buy-in
Ability to write technical strategy documents including consideration of verification plans (Senior)
Pay and Benefits
We anticipate paying a salary of between £45,000 - £65,000 plus:
Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days
