    Librarian / Senior Library Assistant

    North West

    £18 per hour

    Temporary Contract

    About the company

    Sue Hill Recruitment have recently been instructed on a number of roles with clients across the North West of the UK, ranging from 1 month to 3 month contracts. These roles will assist in the provision of a high-quality, customer-focused library service to all Library users. Clients range from academic institutions, public library's to charities and museums.

    What you will be doing

    • Carrying out a range of general library duties including meeting and greeting customers; issuing, discharging and renewing items; taking monies as required; enrolling new members; shelving returned items; shelf tidying; answering general enquiries; and administrative work including data inputting
    • Carrying out routine stock processing, repairs and withdrawals
    • Answering routine enquiries (in person, by email and telephone) as required, referring on to more senior staff as appropriate
    • Assisting with the development and delivery of programmes and events for adults, children and families, both in the library and elsewhere
    • Assisting with the promotion of stock and services via effective stock, leaflet and poster displays
    • Maintain the library as a tidy, safe, attractive and welcoming environment
    • Assist students and staff with basic IT tasks
    • Process new stock to include labelling, stamping and covering items
    • Providing staffing cover to other libraries within the local area as required
    • To undertake any other duties that may reasonably be requested appropriate to the grade

    Who you will be:

    • Previous experience of work in a library is essential
    • Polite, friendly, reliable, confident and outgoing
    • Have demonstrable understanding of equality of opportunity and how to apply this in relation to the duties of the post
    • Excellent proven communication skills, both written and oral
    • Have well-developed literacy and numeracy skills
    • Be able to use IT confidently and effectively
