Our objectives are to provide a diagnostic consultancy service to veterinary practitioners through post-mortem examinations, the interpretation of laboratory diagnostic test results and on-farm disease investigations in order to support national animal disease surveillance and to promote efficient livestock farming (principally beef cattle and sheep).

Close liaison with local veterinary practitioners and farmers are key aspects of the job.

Experience in mixed or farm animal practice is essential and a post-graduate specialist qualification desirable. On-going professional training will be provided. Applicants must be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

A current UK driving licence is essential as travel to remote areas not covered by public transport is a part of this role.


The St Boswells Disease Surveillance Centre is located in the beautiful Scottish Borders within easy reach of the countryside, Berwickshire coast and with road and rail links providing easy access to Edinburgh.
