    A leading corporate banking and capital markets organisation is seeking a lawyer to join their team in London.

    Overview of team

    • Department totals 12 employees and comprises of 9 lawyers, 1 company secretary and 2 assistants.
    • Department covers all legal issues and risk for the Branch ie transactional advice, regulatory matters, contentious and non contentious employment issues, property, data protection, infrastructure and commercial contracts.
    • Lawyers split into teams with one team focusing on debt products, another derivatives / markets and the final team on non transactional issues eg regulatory, commercial contracts, employment etc.
    • Litigation cases covered across the department.
    • Often close liaison with colleagues in Head Office Legal.
    • Given size of the department each lawyer can be expected to work on issues other than their core area of expertise.

    Key Tasks/ Activities

    • Carrying out legal analysis of issues and proposed transactions.
    • Primary focus is providing legal advice and legal risk assessment on issues relating to derivative transactions, principally credit linked derivatives, structured repo transactions, stock lending and prime brokerage.
    • Close out transactions upon default and subsequent work on insolvency claim process
    • Reviewing documentation for proposed transactions for legal risk.
    • Negotiating documentation with counterparties.
    • Instructing and managing external counsel.
    • Where appropriate conducting or supervising litigation.

    Key Requirements

    • Legal qualification.
    • Current solicitor's or barrister's practicing certificate.
    • Experience working for a law firm or financial services organisation's legal department on derivative transactions and understanding of relevant regulatory framework.
    • Experience with other debt products (bonds and loans) helpful but not required.
    • Willingness in mindset to expand product knowledge and knowhow desired.
    • Commercially minded and proactive.
    • Collegiate, personable, joining a small team.
