This is an exciting opportunity to join SEROCU's newly created Proactive Economic Crime Capability comprising of a number of teams targeting illicit finances and money laundering.

The RART provides the investigation capacity, focusing on the money behind all forms of organised crime across the South East region through targeting the money launderers and professional enablers.


The aim of the team is to proactively identify and disrupt the criminal flow of money, and deprive criminals of their illicit assets.

This is achieved through utilising a variety of proactive tactics, as well as traditional criminal investigation and POCA powers such as Account Freezing Orders.

Support is provided by a dedicated Financial Intelligence team.


We are looking for adaptable and driven detectives preferably with a background in SOC, who are willing to review financial transactions on a spreadsheet as much as use and deploy covert tactics.

You will need to have a willingness to learn new skills, and keep abreast of the changing technological opportunities.

We will support your training and development to transition into the role, including Financial and Fraud Investigator accreditations.

  • In consultation with the Detective Sergeant, identify and develop suitable cases for investigation all reasonable effective and efficient lines of enquiry, plan and conduct secondary investigations in operations targeting serious level criminals within organised crime groups
  • Use knowledge and experience of serious and sophisticated criminality to analyse and identify appropriate opportunities and techniques to address investigative problems including telecommunications and forensics
  • Prepare case papers in accordance with Force policy and Directors Manual of Guidance for file preparation
  • Plan and conduct complex interviews of suspects of serious level of criminality, complying with Quality Focussed Investigation procedures and the national PEACE interviewing model

Responsibilities

  • To plan and conduct complex interviews of suspects of serious level of criminality, complying with Quality Focussed Investigation procedures and the national PEACE interviewing model.
  • To work in highly motivated and dedicated team, which comprises both police officers, police staff and partner agencies.
  • To display the highest ethical standards and integrity.
  • To work and liaise with Multi agencies other partnerships.

Essential role based training


The post holder will be expected to attend the National Crime Agency Course to attain a financial accreditation which is required to be maintained.

Any training will be facilitated.


Required knowledge/skills
Essential

  • Substantive Detective Constable.
  • Experience of investigating complex cases and exhibit handling.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and RIPA.
  • Experience of file preparation through to Crown Court and Multi-Agency work.

Additional information


The ability to travel throughout the region is required and the successful applicant will hold a full driving licence and be required to pass a Thames Valley Police Basic Driving Authority.
