Job summary:

The Leadership Capability Team's key objective is to produce a compelling leadership offer to support the DWP strategic priorities. Particularly promoting team learning and leadership development where leaders coach, inspire and empower our people to deliver.


We are creating a Leadership Development Offer which will increase accessibility for all grades to enable them to develop core skills, provide talent development, and build personal and professional leadership behaviours.

We are growing our community of leadership coaches so we can build leadership capability in a sustainable way.


We are seeking people who are flexible, with a passion for building capability at an organisation level, supporting individual learning and talent programmes, and supporting and leading others to ensure our Directorate continues to be a key enabler in maintaining the overall DWP Capability to deliver excellent service to the public.

Job description:

Someone with strong project management skills, people focused with high standards coupled with a supportive and collaborative nature.


You will possess a high degree of resilience and the ability to respond positively to the challenge of working across fast-paced, wide-scale, multi-interest programmes, with an interest in developing insight/evaluation skills to ensure all programmes are fully evaluated and reports collated.

Your personal qualities are as important as your professional background and development.

You will be curious to understand why things happen, innovative, and able to connect multiple threads of things together into a coherent whole.

Big picture thinking and comfort with ambiguity is as important as attention to detail.

You will be passionate about making work engaging, meaningful, and healthy for people around you and for the organisation as a whole.


This role will see you predominantly working within our Coach discipline; however, the role will be flexible and may involve working within other areas of the Leadership Capability Team.

This will support the team's critical business priorities and the broader DWP capability agenda.


Person specification:


  • Provide support for the current Leadership and Management programmes and for Design and Delivery of everyday learning solutions to other DWP leaders and colleagues.
  • Role model leadership in the teams you work with promoting what we do and how we can support the wider organisation.
  • Work with a range of stakeholders and the business partnering community across DWP.
  • Build effective relationships and collaborate with Programme Managers, Project Leads, Design Teams and Planning teams and other Stakeholders to support the various work strands you and your team are engaged with.
  • Be able to work at pace and multitask, see the big picture and have a flexible approach ensuring that you and your team have a balanced approach to recognising and managing priorities making best use of the time and resources available to you.
  • Proactively engage with the team, energise others, and contribute and provide support to your team and the wider team priorities, promoting inclusiveness and ensuring your needs and the needs of your team and others you work with are considered.
  • Monitor and evaluate team performance ensuring adherence to quality standards where applicable and provide effective and substantial feedback to team members as you aim to build capability and experience across your team.
