We are looking for a dynamic and innovative individual who is as passionate about ophthalmology services as we are, to become part of our senior leadership team working as a triumvirate with the Clinical Director and Directorate Manager. The successful candidate will also be fully supported in their professional development by the wider senior nursing leadership team. Main duties of the job Applicants must be experienced as a Band 7 senior nurse, ideally within an ophthalmology environment, and possess excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills to be able to drive forward improvements in line with current operational and professional agendas. Candidates will be passionate about ophthalmic care and able to provide visible, compassionate and accessible senior leadership to support and develop the nursing team. Being able to work autonomously and with the multidisciplinary team to maintain a positive patient focused experience and environment is essential. A flexible approach to work is required as well as the ability to demonstrate resilience to manage varying challenges in this demanding role. You must be able to provide professional direction, advocating excellence in clinical practice at all times and participate in a senior nurse rota to provide senior nurse cover across 7 days. Cross site matron cover to support care of other surgical services may also be required and you will be expected to support colleagues within the matron team. The Matron has 24 hour accountability for the wards/departments/areas in their Directorate for the efficient and effective operational management of the nursing workforce, guaranteeing provision of high quality evidence-based nursing practice which will be delivered within hospital, community and outreach settings. The Matron will provide strong clinical leadership within the services and be highly visible and accessible to patients. Leading by example, the Matron will drive up standards of clinical care.
