The Junior Data Centre Engineer role is to provide reliable and efficient support for the Trust's network and IT infrastructure, maintaining all operational activities of the technical infrastructure environment and the associated services as they are provided to the Trust.
To provide technical expertise within the deployment, configuration, and asset management of the Trust's 3000+ devices including identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the Trust and its customers.
You will also need to attend and lead in business meetings, liaising with internal departments and external companies providing a high-quality customer & professional service at all times.
This role will be expected to participate in a 24/7 on-call rota and planned maintenance activities outside of core office hours as required by the business.
Responsible for implementing and maintaining all data centre devices and infrastructure to ensure the IT operational services are available to the Trust's users, including:
All data centre infrastructure systems/equipment hosted locally and offsite
Data centre infrastructure management (DCIM)
Virtual and physical server infrastructure
Local area network (LAN & SAN)
External network connectivity (WAN)
Microsoft and Linux technologies
Server backup and replication technologies
Service availability, reliability, and monitoring
Office 365 and Azure - NHS Shared Tenant
Responsible for completing all assigned tickets within the IT Service Management (ITSM) system (diagnosing and resolving faults) in line with service level agreements and escalating any likely breaches.
Providing specialist knowledge and expertise to the business to help deliver business objectives, including directly liaising with clinical staff in on boarding new technologies or solutions.
Take part in IT auditing and provide direct or indirect input.

Evidence of providing data centre support
Knowledge of IT best practice standards, procedures, policies, and protocols
Expertise in the following key infrastructure areas o Maintenance and management of the Trust's data centre IT assets. o Office 36- NHS Shared Tenant o Virtual and physical server infrastructure (VMware vSphere) o Local area network (LAN & SAN) o Service availability, reliability, and monitoring o Microsoft Active Directory o Microsoft server infrastructure
Thorough understanding of IT Security
Knowledge of the following:
o Dell hardware and infrastructure o Data centre asset management tools o Azure - NHS Shared Tenant o Cisco data centre switching o Cisco firewall o Microsoft SQL Server o Linux server infrastructure o Enterprise block and file storage (FC & NAS) o External network connectivity (WAN)
ITIL v3 Foundation MCP
Microsoft MCSE or equivalent
Experience in working as part of a Data Centre team
Ability to understand, interpret and communicate complex IT Functionality issues, whilst working under extreme pressure
Able to install and rack data centre equipment using appropriate safety measures.
