Specifically, based in Manchester, this post will involve undertaking audits of Defence Contractors.

Audits will look at controls of Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) which is equipment loaned to contractors to carry out work under the terms of Defence Contracts.

The MOD has around 300 contractors who have MOD holdings with total value of approximately £6bn.

Fieldwork is undertaken in the contractor environment so the post will involve travel throughout the UK.

These positions are advertised at 37 hours per week.


Job description:


  • Reporting to a Higher Executive Officer (HEO/C2) Internal Auditor you will be responsible for delivering an element of an annual GFE audit programme. You will enjoy a considerable autonomy and responsibility for the delivery of audit reports, working individually or as part of a small team. In doing so you will have wide exposure to senior departmental and industry management as well as its processes, structures and activities.
  • In DIA you are very much part of a professional team. We will ensure you have the opportunity for funded and supported training towards the internationally recognised Certified Internal Auditor qualification.

Person specification:


Management - You will be responsible to deliver programme of allocated audits in the most cost effective way including management of your own time and other DIA resources to conduct initial review of evidence of all audit activity within allocated contractor accounts.

This will include the leading of a small team of auditors on occasion.

To respond to queries raised by the DE&S Audit committee for accounts held within your team in a timely manner and as a matter of priority


Programme Planning - You will undertake an annual risk analysis of your allocated contractors This data is used to inform the annual audit programme.


Programme Delivery - Deliver allocated DIA audit assignments as an Audit Leader or Team Member in accordance with DIA procedures and quality standards to time and quality with the most efficient resource utilisation.


Stakeholders - you will engage with all stakeholders develop working relationships which will inform the teams planning, Fieldwork and reporting.

This engagement will be before, during and after assignments. The role involves interaction with staff at all levels of the organisation both in Industry ad within the department,

Delivering assurance work to time cost and quality that adds value to the operation of the organisation. There are opportunities to make a difference in one of the largest organisations in government.

The role involves around 30-35% percent travel; mostly in the UK but with some opportunities to work overseas. For this post you would need to be based in the Greater Manchester area.
