Come and join our award-winning Ecology Consultancy Team; most recently a winner of the CIRIA Big Biodiversity Award for Innovation in 2021.

Stantec's four key values are:

  • We are driven to achieve;
  • We put people first;
  • We do what is right;
  • We are better together.

These values describe perfectly how we work together in the Ecology Consultancy UK team; supporting each other and guiding clients to achieve project requirements, and we do what is right for biodiversity and community.

As a Senior or Principal Ecologist, you would work amongst multi-disciplinary teams, with an Ecology Team behind you that will support you.

The position will also give you the opportunity for growth and progression in your career in the coming years.

As an Associate Ecologist we would expect you to already be confident in your knowledge and skills.

In addition to supporting project work within multi-disciplinary teams, you would be expected to work with colleagues to develop client relationships and Stantec reputation, as well as supporting growth through the coaching and mentoring of others in the Ecology Team.

We work across a range of sectors and projects including major infrastructure and transportation, strategic and regeneration residential schemes, energy & resources, and nationally significant projects, so you will have an exciting and diverse range of projects to work on.

Day to day tasks would include:

  • Taking a lead in the management of ecological projects, including managing commercial risk of the ecological aspects.
  • Resource management, including management of the delivery of fieldwork.
  • Client and consultee engagement regarding approach to and conclusions from ecological baseline and assessment work.
  • Reporting and assessment work, with consideration of Biodiversity Net Gain being a central part of your considerations.

About You

Primarily, we are looking for someone who has a passion for delivering effective solutions to our clients and a desire to work with the Ecology Leadership team to grow and develop the business.

You will be Degree qualified in Ecology, Conservation, Earth Sciences or a related topic, a full member of CIEEM, and ideally Chartered.

Ideally you will also have the following:

  • Proven experience in the management of complex ecological issues within a project context.
  • Indepth knowledge of relevant legislation and policy.
  • A wide understanding of terrestrial ecological issues and preferably holder of at least one protected species licence, or with a specialism in one particular area of fieldcraft/mitigation delivery.
  • Demonstrable skills and experience of assessments, including, PEA, EcIA, Ecology Chapters of EcIA and HRA.
  • Experience and working knowledge of UKHab classification and the Defra Metric.
  • Experience in compiling fee proposals and project budgets.
  • Experience in winning work and team development is desirable but not essential.
For the Associate role, Expert Witness and Public Inquiry experience is desirable but not essential.

From our side, we can offer you continuous opportunities to develop and progress your career, a great learning culture and working environment, flexible hours /working pattern and location, a competitive benefits package and much more.
