    The posts are based at the University of Worcester in our new state of the art medical school on the Severn campus. It will be fixed term appointment for 12 months for academic year 2024/25 with an expected start date of August 2024, with a possible extension for a second 12-month period.

    Main duties of the job

    We now wish to appoint Clinical Teaching Fellows (CTFs) to support the on-going delivery of the curriculum across years 1 and 2 (Phase 1) to medical students on the graduate entry MBChB programme. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the team as the Medical School, which opened to students in September 2023, enters its next phase of development.

    Applications are invited for 2 whole time equivalent Clinical Teaching Fellows in Anatomy, Physiology and Clinical Skills. These are career development posts at FY2/ST1-2 level to facilitate the learning of the next generation of doctors. These posts are focused on active learning and practical application of anatomy, physiology and clinical skills. You will receive training in facilitating learning from a team of enthusiastic clinicians and teachers and will have opportunities for your own professional development, including support with gaining a teaching qualification.

    Applicants will have a keen interest in medical education and training, will be required to be registered with the GMC with a licence to practise, and will have a minimum of 2 years clinical experience after graduation from medical school.

    Job description

    Job responsibilities

    1. To work with colleagues in Three Counties Medical School, across all pre-registration courses, to organise, design and deliver teaching and assessment. This will include designing and facilitating interactive learning experiences for medical students under the supervision of the leads for clinical skills, physiology, and anatomy, specifically for the resource carousel, procedural skills and including Integrated clinical method (ICM) and IPL as required.

    2. To deliver podcasts, lectures, classes, and seminars and facilitate small group work in core and specialist subjects as required with due regard to best practice and the Schools overall teaching strategy.

    3. To contribute to and support the inclusion and diversity agenda within curricula.

    4. To make innovations in teaching and learning through the development of teaching materials, forms of pedagogy, or appropriate teaching collaborations, including developing and delivering education to support specified outcomes of the MBChB and MSc Physician Associate programmes.

    5. To liaise with lead academics throughout the curriculum in supporting the integration and application of core medical science alongside learning achieved through clinical placements.

    6. To work with colleagues to develop and deliver the OSCE examinations through all years of the MBChB and MSc Physician Associate programmes.

    7. As appropriate, to act as a Personal Academic Tutor, providing effective support to students, including referring to specialist services, as appropriate, and proactively identifying engagement issues at an early stage.

    8. To contribute to a range of tutor training and staff development workshops to ensure the quality of teaching and support placement learning opportunities.

    9. To undertake academic administration relevant to the needs of the post.

    10. To contribute to research and scholarly activity in medical education in collaboration with colleagues.

    11. To participate in student recruitment activity.

    12. Participate in staff development and appraisal processes.

    13. Participate fully in the life of the School and carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Dean of the Medical School or their nominee.

    14. Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job; participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff in their development and training.

    15. Take steps to ensure and enhance personal health, safety, and well-being and that of other staff and students.

    16. Carry out these duties in a manner that promotes equality of opportunity and supports diversity and inclusion and takes into account the University's commitment to environmentally sustainable ways of working.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Primary qualification (MBChB or equivalent).
  • Registered with the GMC with a License to Practice and held in good standing.
  • Desirable

  • Evidence of a Teaching and Learning qualification and / or eligibility to apply for Higher Education Academy Fellowship (HEA).
  • Experience

    Essential

  • At least 2 years clinical experience post-graduation - completion of Foundation Training or equivalent.
  • Evidence of an applied understanding of anatomy, physiology and clinical skills and willingness to develop this to facilitate learning in the TCMS MBChB Programme.
  • Experience of teaching in a clinical setting.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity relating to medical education ( quality improvement work, research, or publication).
  • Evidence of making a contribution to both student recruitment and support activities, or a willingness to do so.
  • Have adequate and appropriate clinical knowledge, experience, and skills to be able to participate in an associated clinical role.
  • Desirable

  • Experience of delivering high quality education and Previous teaching experience with large and small groups within a relevant discipline, and or teaching medical students and / or postgraduate doctors in training.

  • Competence in using information technology appropriate to an academic environment, including for the facilitation of learning.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written). Ability to communicate effectively, professionally, and sympathetically with staff and students from a range of ages and backgrounds including giving, requesting, and receiving constructive feedback.
