We are looking for Technical Administrator to join our Managed Services team on a Fixed Term Contract. If you are confident and computer literate, we would love to hear from you.


We are looking for a self-motivated, adaptable, highly organised person with the flexibility to cope with a wide variety of technical and administration tasks based in a 'workshop' environment.

This is a fast-paced environment, so it is essential that you can manage a changing list of priorities.


The role is based in Manchester (with travel to customer sites throughout the Greater Manchester area), although there will be a need to travel to other SSS Public Safety sites within the UK from time to time in accordance with business needs.


Purpose of the role:


The Technical Administrator is responsible for providing 1st line support on this major Airwave Managed Service contract as part of a small team within the Managed Service Team.

SSS Public Safety are the service provider for GMP's communications services, supporting both hardware and software across various communications solutions and associated personal technology solutions utilised by the Police.

The role is based on-site and requires working alongside customer staff as well as SSS Public Safety colleagues.


Key Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Follow & contribute to the maintenance of procedures & guidance notes for use by SSS Public Safety & GMP, providing support and guidance as appropriate
  • Identification of ways of improving service delivery, fault reduction initiatives and making of supporting recommendations associated with the above
  • Participation in any managed service response to support incidents, specific operations and exercises
  • Assist in the successful delivery of small projects, upgrades and work packages as appropriate
  • Deal with Customers and Visitors who require 'onsite' assistance (for example, replacement device ancillary items, advice & support queries)
  • Undertake administrative functions (including, but not limited to, goods in/out, order processing in accordance with SSS Public Safety procedures)
  • Provide Management Information as required relating to SLA and KPI performance to the Contract Manager
  • Support the Contract Manager in delivery of contracted services as laid out in the RMS contract
  • Incident Management activity relating to the resolution and closure of all aspects of the services delivered to GMP and liaise with the SSS Public Safety service desk as appropriate
  • Asset Management of hardware supported under the managed service contract, primarily Mobile Data devices, but if required, Airwave & BWV hardware
  • Support the Contract Manager and Senior Engineer as appropriate, in line with the nature and responsibilities of the role of Technical Administrator
  • Divisional Liaison with users, both locally and 'offsite', in order to gain an understanding of their requirements and deal with all technical aspects associated with the provision of telecommunications and other related special equipment requirements to the Force
  • Auditing & inventory management of local and deployed assets
  • Configuration of mobile hardware prior to deployment to users
  • Support the helpdesk as required with device configuration
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills (written & oral)
  • Extensive "End 2 End" service management experience
  • A Solid understanding of modern integrated IT/Communication systems
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Decision maker able to assimilate all facts quickly and succinctly
  • Highly motivated and proactive
