    Vacancy: Mechanical Engineer Research

    We are looking for a motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our multi-disciplined team TRES (Teesside Research Engineering) encompassing activities including the design, fabrication of equipment and pressure vessels, commissioning, modification and optimisation of bespoke Research Engineering equipment and site infrastructure, spanning multiple Sectors and Business Units across Teesside and 3rd party sites.

    Your responsibilities:
    • Identify and implement design & fabrication solutions to complex problems and to continuously improve the effectiveness and reliability of bespoke Research Engineering equipment.
    • Assisting with routine functioning of equipment, modifying equipment to satisfy changing operating requirements, working with stakeholders and other disciplines to complete statutory compliance, repairs and breakdowns.
    • Lead the design and upgrade of mechanical components and systems from concept to installation, ensuring functionality, efficiency, reliability, and safety.
    • Use of CAD software (preferably AutoCAD and some experience in Autodesk Inventor would be advantageous) to create detailed models and drawings to capture modifications to existing assets and new projects.
    • Prepare comprehensive design documentation, including specifications, test plans and reports.
    • Work closely with other Engineers, Discipline Leads, Research Group Leaders, and team members to ensure seamless communication and integration with overall business goals.
    • Ensure designs meet industry standards, regulatory requirements and quality benchmarks.
    Requirements for the role:
    • Ideally Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering and time served in an Engineering discipline,
    • The candidate will have an enthusiastic drive for problem-solving, a good understanding of pressure systems (PED, PSSR, PD5500 etc.), pressure equipment, small-bore pipework, Swagelok components, pumps, sealing systems, material selection including elastomers and, knowledge of modern machining techniques (CNC, 3D printing etc.) and fabrication.
    • The ideal candidate will also have experience of Management of Change processes, Permit to Work and RAMS.
    • Knowledge of EHS legislation such as COSHH, HAVS and PUWER would also be desirable.
    • Experience of a CMMS, preferably SAP Plant Maintenance, would be advantageous too.
