- Clearly establishing the SHEQ strategic direction, road mapping and vision for the group
- Recording, amending where necessary and successfully delivering SHEQ campaigns, initiatives, processes and procedures across our business lines
- Closely monitoring and auditing results to drive continuous improvement
- Making significant steps towards Net Zero; evaluating, prioritising and articulating new initiatives for the improved sustainability of our work and that of our supply chain
- Overseeing all incident investigations; ensuring quality reporting within reasonable timescales. Also ensuring that root causes are recognised and that corrective actions are applied
- Introducing an effective audit and inspection plan, for sites and Head Office, monitoring this and taking appropriate action when any areas of concern are identified
- Overseeing the management and organisation of both internal and external SHEQ training, ensuring the continuous progression of individuals in line with Company objectives
- Managing the existing SHEQ Team, ensuring sufficient capabilities and resource and to provide assistance and mentorship where required
- Influencing and supporting Company employees at all levels to discharge their own health, safety and environmental responsibilities, defined by Company procedures and legislation alike
- Leading and surveying the certification process and audits for ISOs 9001, 14001 and 45001
- Keeping abreast of any new industry-related legislation and ensuring the adherence of this across Company policies, procedures, technical standards and codes of practice
- Chairing monthly SHEQ meetings and bringing about the introduction of both a Health & Safety committee and a Health & Wellbeing forum in the long-term
- Liaising with external bodies including Clients and other stakeholders
- Bachelors Degree
- NEBOSH Diploma
- Membership of relevant professional body IOSH or equivalent
- Extensive experience in a Senior SHEQ role
- Construction, telecoms and/ or fire protection background
- Firm grasp of construction-related HSW legislation, in particular, legislation surrounding ISOs 9001, 14001 and 45001
- In-depth knowledge of risk and mitigation
- Proven leadership skills
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, both written and verbal
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Outlook and Word
- Full, valid UK driving licence with the willingness and flexibility to travel to sites across the UK at short notice

Step Resourcing are recruiting a SHEQ Director who will join our client based in East Kent with a wealth of industry-related knowledge and experience behind them; namely from the construction industry but additional knowledge of telecoms and/ or fire protection would be advantageous. In this newly created position, the SHEQ Director will take a hands-on approach, leading with optimism and determination.
