    Job summary

    Working for Time for Teeth at HMP Fosse Way you will be based within a prison setting providing a full range of NHS care and treatment to will be working as part of an integrated health team where you will have the opportunity to make a real difference supporting patients with vulnerable and complex health needs from a whole range of different prison environment is a rewarding and challenging one which will allow you to develop and enhance your skills if you are looking to boost your dental career and knowledge whilst providing great patient care, then this may well be the position for you. You will have no UDA targets or lab bill fees to meet.

    Main duties of the job

    You will be responsible for the delivery of high-quality,evidence-based registered dental care in the relevant clinic(s) in a securesetting.

    You will ensureclinical care is delivered in-line with the NHS Personal Dental Services contractand local service specifications and key performance indicators, andin-accordance with relevant national quality standards.

    You will practice in-line with organisational and local clinicalgovernance processes, working collaboratively with the wider local prison /secure healthcare teams (to include healthcare managers, GPs, and secondary care),to support effective management of acute dental conditions, continuing care,and external referrals.

    You will maintain up to date clinical knowledge, in-linewith Enhanced CPD and relevant national standards, and the requirements of theorganisation and job role.

    You will practice in accordancewith BDAStandards of service and conduct, FGDP(UK) Standards in Dentistry and Time forTeeth organisational standards of conduct and performance, and Time for Teethpolicies and procedures.

    Job responsibilities

    Provide a high standard dental care through direct clinical caseload.

    Work effectively and collaboratively with widerhealthcare colleagues.

    Specifically, respond to support and direction providedby the clinical supervisor.

    Work effectively with internal colleagues, to support thedelivery of effective clinical care in-line with clinical governance processes.

    Contribute to the periodic review and analysis of serviceperformance.

    Escalate performance concerns and clinical risks,ensuring reporting in accordance with relevant requirements.

    Assist in incidents and complaints handling.

    Carry out any other dutieswithin the general scope of the post as directed by the Clinical Director.

    Clinical Leadership:

    Contribute to the identification clinic serviceimprovement needs.

    Engage positively in reflectivepracticethrough clinical supervision.

    Maintain constructive, collaborative workingrelationships with organisational, dental, and wider healthcare colleagues, tosupport the effective delivery of care.

    Specifically, work closely with colleagues as a member ofthe local dental care team.

    Clinical Duties:

    To be responsible for the overall delivery ofpatient care, for a defined clinical caseload.

    Provide advice and treatments in accordance with evidence-informedpractice and relevant practice guidelines, Time for Teeth guidance, NICE, GDC,FGDP, BSP and SCDEP.

    Provide key messages relating to oral healthpromotion

    Treat patients in line with local policies andprocedures.

    Ensure compliance with HTM 01-05 / approvedinfection control procedures.

    Provide appropriate clinic-based day-to-day supervisionto dental care professionals (DCP).

    Use all equipment and machinery in accordancewith manufacturers' recommendations and ensure that they are maintainedregularly and in good working order, in accordance with relevant maintenance schedules.

    Ensure the welfare of all patients, includingvulnerable patients and in-line with Safeguarding procedures.

    Comply with all health and safety rules andguidance, including PPE, COSHH, HTM/WHTM-and appropriate waste disposal etc.

    General and Administrative Duties:

    Accurately complete patient clinical records in-linewith FGDP and Time for Teeth policy.

    Liaise with prison/secure healthcare and adminproviders to ensure integrated patient care.

    Engage in all aspects of clinical governance at apersonal and organisational level.

    Comply with the CQC/HIW regulations.

    Complete daily tool count, and other securitychecks in -line with procedure.

    Perform routine clerical duties, appointmentbook management, and work proactively to ensure effective waiting listmanagement.

    Check andcomplete daily tasks on SystmOne (clinical records system).

    Manage secondary care referrals, in accordancewith local referral guidelines.

    Take steps to reduce DNAs and other reasons forfailed appointments, including completing template letters for patients whereappropriate.

    Manage patient complaints, in accordance withapproved procedure.

    Report, file and log incidents in accordance withapproved procedure.

    Undergo training as required, to develop skillsand abilities ( in-line with Enhanced CPD requirements).

    Assist with staff induction.

    Experience

    Essential

  • NHS Primary Care experience GDS/PDS services
  • Understanding of clinical audit, and clinical governance
  • Understanding of the relationship between confidentiality and security
  • Desirable

  • NHS Primary Care experience secure or community dental services
  • Knowledge of public health resources & current guidelines
  • Good understanding of the meaning of clinical supervision
  • Previous experience in dental software Software of Excellence, Dentally
  • Previous experience in SystmOne
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Dental Surgery

  • Membership of a dental defence society
