    Job Summary

    This is a key role within the Blood Supply Senior Management team. The main purpose of this job is to oversee and manage NHSBT's end-to-end blood component supply chain across England. This involves working corporately and with external stakeholders to develop accurate demand forecasts, create supply plans and strategies, and schedule blood collection sessions. The role also includes managing the national blood inventory, setting inventory policies, and ensuring a resilient blood supply is available for patients in need. The job holder will be responsible for leading the organisational response in case of blood component shortages, including coordinating communication with internal and external stakeholders, requiring the highest level of interpersonal and communication skills

    Additionally, the job entails leading various critical business services within the Blood Supply directorate. This includes managing the procurement and maintenance of blood donation equipment, overseeing consumable items required for blood collection, and providing operational support to blood donation teams. The role also holds responsibility for performance reporting, data analysis, and identifying cost-saving opportunities across the supply chain. The job holder will play a key role within the Blood Supply Senior Management team and the broader NHSBT senior leadership team, collaborating across the organisation to contribute to problem-solving and strategic planning across the blood group of directorates.

    Main duties of the job

    In this role you will be responsible for overseeing and managing NHSBT's end-to-end blood component supply chain across England. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working corporately and with external stakeholders to develop accurate demand forecasts, create supply plans and strategies, and schedule blood collection sessions.
  • Managing the national blood inventory, setting inventory policies, and ensuring a resilient blood supply is available for patients in need.
  • Leading the organisational response in case of blood component shortages, including coordinating communication with internal and external stakeholders, requiring the highest level of interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Leading various critical business services within the Blood Supply directorate.
  • Managing the procurement and maintenance of blood donation equipment, overseeing consumable items required for blood collection, and providing operational support to blood donation teams.
  • You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice

    You will be required to participate in the shift rota and on call rotas and to provide cover during operational emergencies.

    About You

    Experience and Knowledge

  • Extensive expertise in supply chain management, with a proven track record of balancing complex decisions to meet customer demands
  • Highly developed operational management knowledge including experience of managing and setting large budgets.
  • Proven experience of developed communication skills with Senior Management, Directors and external stakeholders, resolving complex operational planning issues. Requires leadership and well-developed negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Proven experience of business strategy development and implementation at a senior management level.
  • Strong people management and leadership skills gained from working at a senior management position in a large organisation, with proven ability in influencing, negotiating motivation, staff development, conflict resolution and performance management.
  • Demonstrable experience of formulation of business strategy, change plans and implementing change management at a senior level.
  • Prior experience of business strategy development.
  • A senior manager and professional with extensive proven experience of managing and developing S & OP processes in a large-scale organisation.
  • Knowledge in GMP, GDP and all relevant manufacturing standards.
  • Significant experience of working in manufacturing processes based on life sciences e.g. pharmaceuticals, biological, NHSBT.
  • Experienced in the handling of customer / service user complaints and conflict resolution.
  • Working knowledge of Public Contract Regulations and experience leading large, multi-million £ procurement exercises for products and services
  • Extensive experience in the field, with significant experience in a senior and/or strategic position.
  • Qualifications and Training

  • Highly specialist knowledge of Integrated Supply Chain Management at Masters level or holds a Masters Qualification in this field.
