Hours:
Two posts. A full time two year fixed term post to cover secondment and a substantive part time post of 22.5 hrs per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

We are seeking to appoint two enthusiastic patient pathway co-ordinator to join the haematology administrative teams. These are busy roles and the successful applicants will be a team players with excellent organisational and communication skills.

You will need to be flexible and adaptable to deliver a range of administrative duties, which will include typing clinical letters.

To be the point of contact for all patients issues relating to their pathway of care, both for inpatients and outpatients.


To work as part of a multidisciplinary team for the Cancer and Haematology (CSU), supporting the business and operational management of the CSU.


To provide expertise in the proactive management of the patient pathway from referral to discharge, ensuring the entire pathway is managed smoothly.


To ensure high levels of patient and clinician satisfaction by being an accessible, customer focussed and knowledgeable point of contact.

  • Use Trust IT systems and CSU databases to ensure relevant and appropriate patient information is entered and captured.
  • Undertake general typing duties for clinic letters, specialist and/or confidential reports e.g. DVLA, Registration of blind patients, inquests, police reports.
  • Investigate any patient DNAs and deferrals, communicating the results to the Consultants and business unit team as appropriate, updating CRS and waitlists accordingly.
  • Ensure that referral management is dealt with in accordance with Patient Access Policy (PAP) and SOPs.
  • Ensure that any diagnostics and investigations that are required as part of the patient pathway are requested according to SOP and that the results are available for consultations. This will include those that are carried out at other Trusts.
  • To understand cancer and 18 weeks referral to treatment (RTT) rules and use them to manage all patient journeys
  • Undertake validation of the RTT Patient Tracking List. Investigate and take the appropriate action where pathways are incomplete to ensure that patients are receiving timely treatment and Trust information is robust.
  • Demonstrate high levels of customer care and be an ambassador for customer care within the trust
  • Act as the communication hub for the clinical team, other PPCs, primary care, patients and their relatives as well as internal and external organisations.
  • Ensure that Trust agreed standard of service is delivered to patients requiring elective admission to the speciality
  • Ensure details of patients to be admitted are entered onto CRS.
