Who will I be working for?
In 2016, two friends had a vision.

Andrew, a talented Technical Designer, well respected within the mechanical services industry, and Steve, with a proven track record of running and growing successful businesses.

They both wanted a company they could beproud of, one that really respected their staff, exceeded their clients' expectations, and valued their suppliers and subcontractors.

And so, Purely Air Tech was born.


The last 6 years have seen the business flourish, with a particular expertise in lab design and construction, predominately within the Home Counties.

The team has also grown, with a permanent staff of 9 and a strong network of subcontractors. Although theteam has expanded over recent years, the 'start-up' mentality remains, and they encourage new ideas and knowledge sharing.


As they start the next phase of growth, a great opportunity has arisen for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer, to work closely with Andrew.


The Role:


Senior Mechanical Services Design Engineer:


As the business continues to grow, this will be a great opportunity to work on some exciting and cutting-edge projects, predominantly within the scientific sector.

Primarily this position will be a design role, but also needs someone hands on, who can alsoturn their hand to project management and wants a varied opportunity.


Typical activities include:

Pre-Sales

  • Respond to project enquiries, investigating the project requirements
  • Formulating an outline initial design
  • Price associated costs, to give client a defined budget
  • Work with approved specialist subcontractors
  • Attend potential project sites to conduct initial site surveys and investigations
  • Submit final quotations and proposals
  • Check and agree contractual agreements with clients

Design and Development

  • Once initial proposals are accepted, prepare detailed design calculations, technical specifications and working drawings
  • Provide construction issue drawings
  • Select manufactures and specialist subcontractors to ensure budgets and timelines are achieved
  • Manage and adapt to changing project specifications and ensuring all relevant parties are informed.
  • Ensure projects are progressing on time and on budget through all RIBA stages
  • Attend client and design team meetings

Ongoing Project Management

  • Procurement of all required materials and equipment
  • Attendance of site meetings and producing written site progress reports
  • Monitor health and safety and risk management project requirements
  • Chase suppliers as required, to meet programme deadlines
  • Liaise with all associated client and project partners
  • Deal with enquiries
  • Provide all required invoicing information to accounts
  • Approve supplier invoices for payment
  • Write and produce information for operating and maintenance manuals
  • Negotiating and managing any cost variations

Essential Skills:


  • At least 5 years' experience within Mechanical Design Engineering on projects such as laboratories, commercial offices and cleanrooms
  • Familiar with Building Regulations, CIBSE guidelines and BREEAM
  • Experience working in a client facing role
  • Good commercial awareness
  • Strong technical and analytical skills
  • Good level of computer literacy
  • You will need to be an excellent communicator

Desirable Skills:


  • Ideally, you will have an accredited Building Services/Mechanical Engineering Degree or higher educational qualification.
  • Experience using IES, Hevacomp, AutoCAD and Revit

Where will I be based?


On the whole, this is an office-based role, and you will spend time in meetings and briefings, as well as remaining in close contact with key clients.

The office is based within a state-of-the-art innovation centre on Milton Park, with all the mod cons anda lovely café.

Occasional travel is usually required for client visits, new business presentations, planning and brief taking.
