The Role


To work as a leading member of a team in providing direct day to day care and to support looked after children and young people.

To provide advice and guidance to all Specialist support worker within the service, ensuring the care and welfare of each child in placement.

Assisting the Operations Manager and the Senior specialist support worker, to provide the highest standard of care to any young person/s placed.


To be a full and active member of the team, providing direct support in the day to day support of the service.


  • To participate in duties associated with the service as directed by the Operations Manager/ Senior specialist support worker
  • To be aware of and comply with the statutory requirements and all the Company's policies and procedures including those of outdoor activities. This includes ensuring that other Specialist Support Workers are aware of and comply with statutory requirements and company policies and procedures.
  • To promote professional practice and standards in the team in line with legislation and the Company's policies and procedures
  • To participate in on call rotas and promote flexibility within the staff team; being adaptable within reasonable bounds, in order to ensure the necessary cover for the service is maintained at all times
  • To provide support for the Operations Manager/ Senior specialist support worker and cover in the Operations Manager/ Senior specialist support worker absence and annual leave
  • To inform team members of relevant developments, (i.e. during handover), and promote excellent communication for the welfare of the young person/s
  • To transport the young person/s as and when required in accordance with their care plan and relevant legislation
  • To maintain the highest level of recording and report writing and assisting the Operations Manager/ Senior specialist support worker by periodically auditing all recordings of the Home to ensure a high standard is maintained at all times
  • Assist the Operations Manager/ Senior specialist support worker in motivating the team and ensuring morale is high; reporting any staff issues promptly
  • To actively participate in team meetings; promote and encourage other Specialist support workers' participation
  • To attend supervision sessions as per Company policy
  • Practice and role model the Company's Equality and Diversity policy, ensuring that the religious, racial, cultural and linguistic backgrounds of the young person/s and their families are promoted
  • Assist the Operations Manager/ Senior specialist support worker with the enforcement of the health and safety regulations of the Home to include fire, emergency lighting, fire fighting equipment, gas and electric and abide by all risk assessments and COSHH regulations
  • Assist with the Operations Manager/ Senior specialist support worker in ensuring that all staff maintain confidentiality and follow GDPR at all times
  • Participate in and promote support in achieving high standards of cleanliness, laundry, cooking of meals and other domestic duties as required by the Operations Manager/ Senior specialist support worker, within the YP Home and any other offsite location the service uses.
  • Follow all procedures for use and maintenance of outdoor equipment, ensuring and monitoring the staff team use and maintenance
  • To identify problems and service deficiencies, by continuous review of the young person/s needs and make recommendations for improvements; ensure that team members recommendations are heard

Job Hours

  • Your contracted hours will be 40 hours per week (full time) Actual hours are determined by the monthly rota and will include weekendwork, waking nights, Bank Holidays, day shifts, evenings, sleepins
