    One of my key clients working in the EV / Batteries / Mobility Sector is recruiting for a skilled and motivated Principal/Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Mechanical team based in Northern Ireland. The company is a cutting-edge company dedicated to advancing sustainable transportation solutions through innovative engineering and technology.

The successful candidate will lead the design and development of mechanical systems and components for our electric propulsion projects, contributing their expertise to deliver cutting-edge solutions that push the boundaries of technology. As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of sustainable transportation.

    Principal/Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

    £40k to £70k (Negotiable Depending on Experience)

    Northern Ireland

    Hybrid WFH - Mainly on Site

    Responsibilities:

    • Mechanical System Design: Lead the conceptualisation, design, and development of mechanical systems and components for electric propulsion systems, including propulsion units, drivetrains, and structural components, to meet project requirements and performance objectives.
    • CAD Modelling and Simulation: Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software to create detailed 3D models and simulations of mechanical components and assemblies, ensuring adherence to design specifications, performance criteria, and manufacturability requirements.
    • Material Selection and Analysis: Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes for mechanical components, considering factors such as strength, durability, weight, and cost-effectiveness, and perform structural and thermal analyses to validate design integrity.
    • Prototype Development: Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to build and test prototypes of mechanical systems and components, iterating designs based on test results and feedback to optimize performance and reliability.
    • Manufacturing Support: Work closely with manufacturing partners to transition designs from prototyping to production, providing guidance and support to ensure successful implementation and quality control throughout the manufacturing process.
    • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to communicate design requirements, manufacturing instructions, and assembly procedures effectively to internal teams and external stakeholders.
    • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with electrical engineers, systems engineers, software developers, and project managers to integrate mechanical systems with other subsystems and ensure seamless functionality and compatibility across the entire propulsion system.

    Key Skills & Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
    • Proven experience (X years) in mechanical design engineering, preferably in the marine, automotive, or aerospace industry.
    • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor) and finite element analysis (FEA) tools for structural and thermal analysis.
    • Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials selection, and manufacturing processes.
    • Experience with rapid prototyping techniques and additive manufacturing technologies is desirable.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to innovate and develop creative solutions to complex engineering challenges.
    • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
