    Information about the role:

    The South East Regional Prison Intelligence Team (SERPIT) is responsible for gathering and developing intelligence from HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and other associated establishments relating to national security issues and organised crime.

    The prison hub is supported by a number of Prison Intelligence Officers (PIO's) who are expected to work within the regional establishments. Working alongside HMPPS, they identify and exploit intelligence opportunities with a view of mitigating risk and disrupting offenders.

    The successful candidates will develop and maintain effective working relationships with Counter Terrorism Units and other partner agencies, tasked with the investigation of matters affecting National Security across the South East Region.

    We are seeking to appoint candidates with excellent communication/interpersonal and problem solving skills.

    Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate will have completed the Operational Partnership Team "Working in Prisons National Course" and National Prison Debriefing course, or be willing and able to undertake training.

    Please note that this role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result you may be required to travel for business purposes mainly across the south east region and occasionally throughout the UK. Therefore, the successful candidate will require a full UK driving licence.

    Due to the nature of our work, security is of paramount importance to us and therefore it will be necessary to pass and maintain vetting level SC. In order to achieve this, you must be a British National and have resided in the UK for the past five. Exemptions apply for overseas or other diplomatic service (with HM Government),and studying abroad.

  • Completion of the Working in Prisons National Course and National Prison Debriefing course, or be willing and able to undertake training.
  • Experience of working in a law enforcement, prison or similar environment (e.g. government agencies).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with partners at all levels. Able to work in partnership and operate effectively within a multi-agency environment.
  • Proven ability to recognise sensitive information, maintain discretion, confidentiality and manage risk
  • Self-motivated with a flexible approach in terms of working times. A proven ability to work under pressure and an ability to use initiative to solve problems.
  • Able to proactively seek out intelligence development opportunities without the need for specific tasking or guidance. Provide briefings to partners, Law Enforcement Agencies and attend Case Management meetings
  • Able to demonstrate well developed organisational and time management skills and resilience to stress when managing own workload.
