My client is recruiting for a Senior Grounds person to work at their Independent School. The role is to start from ASAP and is a permanent opportunity.

This is a full time role to work all year round


This is a 40 hour per week position working from 08:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday, with 30- minute unpaid meal break (with allowances for summer and winter daylight when working hours may be varied).

In addition, some occasional Saturday working is required during the summer term.

  • A current enhanced DBS certificate/ subscription to the update service
  • Recent experience working as Grounds person, ideally within an educational setting
  • A recognised qualification in Sports Turf Maintenance (minimum NVQ Level 2);
  • A good understanding of relevant health & safety legislation;
  • A good knowledge of turf management or greenkeeping and all aspects of Groundsman ship;
  • Previous supervisory experience

Duties include but are not limited to:

To undertake all grounds maintenance tasks with the duty of ensuring that sports surfaces and the school's estate are maintained to an exceptionally high standard and contribute to the delivery of plans and programmes of work under the control of the Grounds Manager and Deputy Head Groundsperson.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Grounds Maintenance Tasks

  • To prepare and maintain the sports grounds, gardens, woodland, and amenity areas to the standards set out by the Grounds Manager and Deputy Head Groundsperson.
  • To undertake a wide range of turf operations, including mowing, aerating, scarifying, seeding and top dressing.
  • The operation of powered hand tools including mowers, strimmers and hedge cutters.
  • Contributing with weekly and monthly maintenance programmes to ensure the required standard of surface presentation.
  • Reporting jobs which require attention of the Grounds team.
  • Using the school's new fleet of machinery in renovation of grass areas.
  • Marking out pitches, cleaning equipment stores and associated washdown areas.
  • Some supervisory responsibility for ensuring key tasks are carried out.
  • Ensure work areas are kept clean, tidy and secure at all times.
  • To carry out gritting, salt spreading, snow cleaning, as necessary, including highway footpaths through the School.
  • To ensure pathways and roads are maintained to a clean and tidy standard.
Health and Safety

  • To be aware of Health and Safety requirements noting that all duties must be carried out to comply with current Health & Safety at Work legislation.
  • To ensure all equipment, machinery and buildings are secure.
  • To be aware of and report any security risks posed within the school.
  • To maintain and operate safely and professionally a range of vehicles and equipment required for grounds care operations, including tractors with PTO driven implements.
  • Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security of for yourself, the team, others and work areas.
  • To follow all Health and Safety Policy guidelines and policies as stated within the school's Health and Safety Policy. Supporting the Grounds manager Deputy head of grounds with machinery maintenance
  • To undertake the general maintenance of machinery on a daytoday basis, reporting faults and updating the machinery maintenance records. Working with other departments to support school events
  • To work alongside other departments to facilitate school functions and events during and outside of normal working hours.
