    Job Opportunity:

    Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a Casualty Underwriter to join our Energy & Construction Casualty, UK team in London.

    Day-to-day responsibilities of this role include contributions towards the growth and build-out of the Energy & Construction business across all sectors of the team, including Construction, Renewables, Mining, Power and Oil and Gas. You would be involved in the pre-qualifying of accounts, utilising underwriting acumen to select risks within the company's risk appetite, supporting senior underwriters as well as expanding and developing new business opportunities with brokers and customers.

    We are seeking an individual who is energised, passionate and who is always striving towards excellence. You should be comfortable working closely with the claims team, underwriters from across broader teams as well as actuaries. In addition, necessary character, relationship building and negotiating skills to help lead and further build a profitable book of business are of the upmost importance. The successful candidate will be focused on a positive customer experience, while maintaining sound underwriting discipline. This position is a great fit for an Underwriter looking to expand their responsibilities and underwriting knowledge with an experienced and well-regarded unit within a top global insurance company.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Support the development and build-out of Energy & Construction Casualty, UK that is consistent with the teams focus on profitable growth
    • Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships
    • Underwrite Primary and Excess accounts while ensuring appropriate analysis and documentation without sacrificing discipline, diligence, and quality service
    • Maintain a profitable renewal book
    • Effectively communicate BHSI value proposition
    • Be a positive reflection on the company by demonstrating integrity and leadership in the marketplace
    • Assist Junior members of the team and support senior underwriters

    Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

    • 3+ years of Casualty Underwriting experience
    • Strong underwriting acumen
    • Existing broker and customer relationships, or the experience and ability to develop strong broker and customer relationships quickly
    • Experience and understanding of policy forms, both carrier and market
    • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work in a team environment
    • Strong communication skills including negotiation and presentation experience
