An exciting opportunity has arisen for a trainee advanced clinical practitioner within the Plastic Surgery team at Northumbria Healthcare. We are a small team providing plastic, reconstructive and microsurgery, including a 2ww Skin Cancer service.

You will be part of a team of people who will be instrumental in developing and delivering our clinical strategy and will contribute positively to the development of the patient pathways for Plastic Surgery.

You will work closely with the reconstruction and microsurgery specialists, supporting with a range of clinical interventions. You will be required to work across several sites to deliver care to our patients.


You will report to the Chief Matron and Consultant, who will oversee your development and progress and offer regular supervision.


We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England.

We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres.

We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate.

  • Provide professional senior clinical leadership and support within the specialty multi professional team and across service boundaries
  • Lead clinical audits and critically engage in research activity using the results to underpin own practice, inform the practice of others and make organisational recommendations
  • The role requires an expert clinician who is a resource for the junior medical team and the clinical nurse specialists
  • To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.
